I was talking with a couple of the people, R.N.'s in work today when one of them came up with an interesting question. (They had discussed this before and wanted to know what I thought.)

The question was what would I do if I found something like a CD or a thumb drive laying in the street and when I checked it out found it to be filled with nude pictures of a good looking neighbor, (Whom I recognised.) (Of the gender the viewer is interested in.)

I didn't have to think very hard about it before I answered, but I somehow think my answer surprised them.

So before I post my answer I pose the same question to you. What would you do?

Return it, letting them know where I found it, and saying something like "Looked like it had to be yours. If it's not, it should be".

The question for me would be more how I'd return it. Would I have the guts to hand it to them, or would I do it anonymously through the letter box? Guess it would depend quite a bit on the other's personality.

I'd about have to mail it to them anonymously. If there's nothing on the outside to identify the owner, it means you identified them by what's on the disc/drive.

Not exactly a comfortable little meeting at the door.

I'd resist the urge to copy the pics, but I'm not so sure I'd stop looking through them even once I figured out who it was.

I'm male *shrug*

Depends entirely upon the relationship with her. If it's somebody you see a couple of times a week passing down the street, that's one thing. If you have more than a casual relationship, that's another.

If I thought I could get away with it, I might even try to drop it somewhere she could find it and think it possible that it was lying there the whole time. Slide it under the garage door, maybe ( would probably work for a disc ) Give her the comforting assumption that nobody else saw the pics and the relief that they were safely in her hands alone once more.

Too many variables, really.

I'd return it without comment. What they do is none of my business.

If they asked how I knew it was theirs I'd say, "I can't tell you that and I won't tell anyone else how I know either."

I'd return it with a smile, and never mention it-- unless they wanted to talk about it.

My issue is, "Who took the photos?"

If I suspected that was a physically fit, potentially aggressive guy, half, or less, than my age, I'd be very discrete. Maybe take copies, but return it 'from Anonymous' (good for Anonymous to do something nice for a change.)

If there seemed a chance they were self-portraits, I might well take a risk. A lady who did that may just possibly .........

Good answers all.

Of course me being me I didn't answer right off. I first asked if the person in the pictures was of legal age. (That got a few surprised looks to be sure.)

My answer though was this. If the person in the pictures was of legal age then I would place the disc or drive in a spot where the original owner would easily find it. For example on their patio or on the front seat of their car.

I would not make copies of the pictures. (Even though I'm sure I would be highly tempted, especially if it was certain of the people I know.) To do so would be without honor to me.

If they were under age, Cat?

If they were under age then the proper authorities, (Police) would be notified. This of course does have the disclaimer, it depends on the type of photographs they were. (Yes I do realise this does open a box of worms. Who determines the appropriateness of underaged photographs?)

Totally different plate of fish.

In that case, the prime cause for concern is risk to the minor. My previous question about who took the photos takes on a very different and far more ominous significance.

That one is way out of the trivial. Hypothetical cases stop being trivial or titillating and become serious cause for concern.

Good thought. I'd like to think I'd do the same - an invisible solution. But damn if I wouldn't have a struggle about copying them. What if their hard drive crashed? Honor, though. Shit, you had to mention honor.

And absolutely on the minors with exceptions. Hell, even I got those cutesy pics of my daughter taking bubble baths from birth to two and running naked and gleeful in the yard (damn girl wouldn't keep her clothes on). But that's it, I'm not a perv!

Cat, if there were any nekkid pics of me, I'd hope you were the one who found them. And I might even give you a copy of the disc as a reward for its safe return. :D

Dammit, I forgot that "underage" is a trigger-word. In no way did I think of twelve or seven--- mostly because you said; a good looking neighbor. That qualifies the question to me. Nine year olds are not good-looking with reference to nude photos.

I should have said; "If they were seventeen?"

If it was a certain neighbor, I'd ask him if he needed a photographer for his next photo shoot!

One neighbor, I'd give the CD/thumb drive to his wife, telling her that it was obviously her husband's pictures.

Otherwise, I'd just destroy it. Let it be lost forever. Maybe the model and/or photographer would be more careful in the future.

That is pretty much what I was thinking when the underage question was initially brought up. Teens that are just shy of being old enough.

Elsewhere I mentioned a childporn case I was involved in.

FDLE examined the suspects computer hard drive, and all they found on it was MPGs of the vice detective's wife having sex with the suspect. SURPRISE! SURPRISE!

The first part of the question presumes I would pick it up in the first place, which I wouldn't. (Might be tempted, because of my incredible curiosity, but I wouldn't.)

The second part of the question also makes the presumption that I would check it out, which I wouldn't (curiosity aside) simply because I'm paranoid of viruses and that would be one hell of a way to deliver them.

Based solely on the presumption that I would pick it up and check it out, finding the nude photos, I would indeed return the media to the owner, after of course sharing my find with my husband. ;)

Now with the further question of being 'underage', that's a whole other reason to not pick it up, or check it out, in the first place. I would feel the need to take the media to authorities, but would be hard pressed to do so, based on experience. I've learned all it takes is an accusation of inappropriate relations with a minor to ruin your life forever. Who's to say that I would not be accused of having taken the photos myself? Having opened the media on my computer, there's 'proof' of them on my hard drive. The next leap made could be that I was trying to 'set up' an enemy.

Being very familiar with the injustice of law, I'm 99.99% sure I would not put myself in that position in the first place. Just my views. :rose:

If it were nudes of a teen over the age of sixteen (more or less) I absolutely would not, ever take it to the authorities. You know quite well what a hash that would make of the model's life and the photographer's; there are no second chances in this witchunt atmosphere.

I would either destroy it, or take it to the model and have a talk with her or him about discretion and safe sex, if I thought that person might be receptive to the advice of an old hippie.

Okay,

I understand some of the comments about the underage thing and feel the need to possibly explain my position.

I know I'm not the best guestimator of age in women, I never have been. That being said if the disc or drive had images of a younger female that was obviously underage then I would react as I have said. (ie. the police.) On the other hand, if it isn't obviously underage then it would be quietly returned. I am not in the position to know the ages of women I don't personally know.

I have seen young women on the beach that would knock your eyes out, only to find out later they were all of 14 years old. I know a woman who happens to be my age but in a bathing suit or less she looks to be just entering puberty.

It would be a judgement call.

As for turning it in, that can be done annon as well.

Cat

I'd return it, no questions asked. Depending on the neighbor, I'd either give it to them personally or return it anonymously. I certainly am in no position to judge.
