I was going through my first dive log and looking at the comments I had made in it. This was the log I had started when I began diving. Reading through it I read about my first dives in my class and the lessons I had learned. That was interesting.

Then I read about my first dives after the class. Going out diving with my father in the cold waters of Cape Cod. I watched as I slowly learned and matured into a seasoned diver. Then I read about my diving while on vacation in Hawaii. One of the dives there had an interesting note about a free diver I saw. Oh the memories that brought back.

Here I was, drifting in maybe fifteen feet of water along a reef. I was warm and comfortable in the 80° water and was just stunned at the visibility. I came over a head of Brain Coral and just stopped breathing. There on the bottom beneath me was a woman. Nude but for her long fins and mask. She was a freediver but oh what a freediver.

She was maybe eighteen with long hair. Slender with well toned muscles she swam along the bottom beneath me without effort. When she started rising to the surface I couldn't help myself. I rolled onto my back and watched her. Oh man talk about beauty. There was no question in my mind that she had to be a Mermaid of some kind.

I carry that image in my mind even now. What a memory it is.
