I have a lizard- a Bearded Dragon, to be precise. I have a 30 gallon tank that he lives in. Well, I took him out of the tank and put him into the bathtub so that I could clean out the tank.

I can't get him back in now. Every time I go to pick him up, he puffs up and opens his mouth- it scares the hell out of me, as I really don't feel like being bitten. He's never bitten me before, but either he's really pissed off at me, or he really likes the tub.

Ok- I just pulled a sneak attack on him and got him back into his tank. All is well, not like anyone here cares.

We had the same problem with my iguana not too long ago. He loves swimming in the tub, and never wants to come out. Since he's about 2 1/2 feet lond, and can use his tail like a bull whip, he's kind of intimidating.

I put on gloves, the type normal people use for dishwashing, and grabbed him. He still gave biting and lashing me a good try, but couldn't get through the gloves.

Another option is to run some cool water into the tub. When he's cold, he'll move slower, and be easier to catch.

Sometimes a towel or throw rug or blanket is good to through over an irritated animal before you pick them up, especially if it's thicker than their teeth are long. Sometimes darkness calms a creature.

For some reason this reminds me of when I wash my cat. I let her roam around outside so she starts to stink like dirt after a while and because she is an all white Persian, her coat turns this ugly gray color. So like once a week I fill my bathtub up with warm soapy water and dunk her in it. Traumatizing I'm sure but it's for her own good. Of course it doesn't just end there, I have to blow-dry her because she gets the whole house wet if I don't. She really gets mad at me for a couple hours afterward but eventually she gets over it.
