One of the R.N.'s on my unit comes from Jamaica. We often talk about food and swap recipes. Every now and then we'll bring in something for the other to try. Today she decided to bring in something she knew I haven't had the opportunity to try. Jerked Goat.

Now I have had Jerk Chicken, Jerk Fish and Jerk Pork. I have eaten enough Curried Goat to wipe out a farm. Plantains and Dirty Rice are normal parts of my diet. I have never had Jerk Goat though.

Well she brought in a largish container of Jerk Goat for me to try.

Now let me say this. If you ever have the chance to try Jerk Goat do so. Talk about tasty. A wonderful flavor with a bit of bite to it.

Needless to say I wiped out the entire container.

See if you can pry the recipe out of her, hmm? My local Chinese supermarket carries goat to cater to the Philippine customers.

I enjoy Jamacian food, but I've never had goat...that I know of. ;)

I doubt if it's on any menus 'round here. I'd like to try it though.

Talked to an older rancher at my Insurance Agents office. He said that he was starting to get too old (72) and that his partner (wife) was too small to handle the stock shoots anymore so they gave up raising cattle. Now they are raising meat goats. I need to hook up with him.

Good idea. Of course, given the way certain cattle are being downsized, he just might change his mind. However, if he does go the chevon route, have at it. Goat adobo is not to be missed!

During my sojourn in Pakistan, after I got my own place and started catering for myself, I bought mutton - I do love a good mutton stew.

It was still later that I was told that in Pakistani English, sheep meat was called lamb, goat meat was called mutton, so I'd been cooking goat stew without realising it!

Without dwelling on the discernment of my taste-buds - or lack of such - I do vouch for the fact that goat's meat can make a very tasty meal.
