Watching the last Bush press conference, and I swear, Bush just compared himself to Abraham Lincoln.

I have no love for Lincoln....but what cojones the man has!

"There was a lot of discord and disagreement with the 16th president, just like there has been with the 43rd president."

I was honestly prepared to cut him some slack on this last press conference, and he makes a complete jackass of himself again.

As much as I dislike Bush, he's right about the grief Lincoln got from everyone. The Secret Service had to sneak him to Washingtom for his own innauguration, and it went downhill from there. Its all in the old newspapers.

As much as I dislike Lincoln, at least he did do something constructive during his time in office.

Wish I could say the same for Bush.

But Bush himself said we'll all be dead when the final jury is out on his presidency, which he believes history will judge as positive.

He's nothing if not consistent.

It could have been worse. He could have compared himself to Washington or Jefferson.

Myself, the nearest historical parallel that keeps coming to my mind is Commodus. A symptom of just how bad things had become in the empire.

I think he should lead the way on that one so we can start thinking about it now. You know, just to give the guy his Very Best Shot at this.

I was thinking more like Nero. He spent the last 4 years "fiddling" while the US and the rest of the world burned.

I used to have a very large book of the letters of condolence written to the US after Lincoln's assassination.

There were letters from governments, city halls, town councils, and hundreds of clubs and societies all over the world.

The massive gap was obvious. Apart from a very few odd-ball groups, no letters came from the former Confederate States.

Og

We got Bush because people are idiots and because the Democrats offered nothing better than Bush. Gore would be sputtering psychotic nonsense in the present crisis, and Kerry would advocate everyone eating cake instead of bread.

Bush is the ner do well, perfumed prince who wants to be liked and be invited to parties. Lincoln didnt give a shit if he got invited anywhere. He did the right thing and was murdered for it.

We havent had a President since Lincoln who was willing to risk his neck. Maybe Obama will, but I think he'll be very unpopular with you guys very soon.

Well, there's still time for someone to assassinate him and make that comparison a bit more apt. Any chance he's going to be seeing a play sometime within the next week?

eh....his time is over, thank goodness. I just hope he fades away quietly.

I knew an old man whose animosity for Abraham Lincoln went so deep, he would not take pennies in his change because he could not bear to have a portrait of Lincoln in his pocket.

There is little doubt today that the South would have faired better if Lincoln had finished his second term.

hmmm if he was serious he would have compared himself to paris hilton
What an interesting idea. What similarities in particular do you see between Dubya's time in the White House and Paris' career on, oh, say "The Simple Life"?

Haha yes people who seem to make career out of a last name even tho they dont seem terribly equiped for it.

They both seem to be always busy and yet you cant remember what it was they actually did...

I'd rather see a trial and a lawful hanging for this dude within the rules of US law, which would clearly justify death for Dubya's treasonous acts.

It says a lot more when the justice system puts him down, than a lone assassin who would only give Bush haters a bad name, and who might even be someone from outside the country (a scenario I seriously despise).

There's that famous liberal love and tolerance that we've all come to expect.......Carney

What a shame. You're the exact demographic he was hoping to win over!!

Umm, that's kind of the point. We're all Americans, aren't we? Close to three quarters of us have had enough of him. His policies were soundly rejected in the last two national elections.
What demographic, exactly, can be "won over"?
