Oh My Goodness

disappointment

Okay. deflated already. :(

Someone gave Chamomile Tea a "3". It would be easier to take if the voter would have sent a comment.

What's with this hit and run business? I'm thinking about shutting off the voting option. I can take a negative comment a helluva lot easier than watching an average being shot to hell.

I know I must be trippin' because I have had my work harshly evaluated and could handle that. So why does the voting sting?

a vote stings like the bee

I just saw your post here........I know the feeling of
getting good scores on the first run then finding out
that they took a big dip! It can hurt, but once one
has been on here long enough its not bad at all. I
recall one of my stories was doing quite well way back
then the score took a big hit downward........luckily
since then its been going back upward. I've also
received anonymous responses, both bad and good,
but I prefer the real deal so I can reply back to them.

keep on truckin'! :)

daughter,

Don't worry about the 'score', or the anonymous posters. Keep your own score from those that send you comments with their id's attached. Be they good or bad, at least with an id, you can start a dialog to get more detail if needed.

Those that just vote low with no comment, and those that anonymously give comment are the type that like to get something for nothing and don't really count in the greater scheme of things.

Someone here has a tag line about those that know you don't mind, and those that don't know you don't matter. Seems it would be a good line to paraphrase.

Keep 'em coming!! Some of us non-writers do like a good read, and as the length of this post shows, we aren't all that bashful about saying so.. :)

Russ--

You are kind. I'm feeling better. I have established some connections that are very positive.

I honestly don't bruise to easily and I'm too damn ornery to leave. :)

Thanks.

I think I'll turn the voting off ....

Your writings do inspire. you have a style all your own and differnt from mine, as it should be. It inspires me to go further.

don't let the see-saw of the voting get to you as it is bound to do on a newly posted story.. it takes awhile for the realaverage to show through ... like in any statistical formula, the larger the sample the more accurate the results.. give it time and concentrate of the answerable feedback more in the beginning....

Polar ;)

Thanks

You're a cool partner. For anyone who's interested, Polar Juice and I decided to do a collaboration. Our developing story is "love between screens" in SRP:

This is for the hopeless romantics. Sorry, no porn folks. We plan on turning up the heat, but our Sam and Nora are sensible folk who need a little time. I'm sure by the time they drop their guards they won't be the only two trying to get their groove on. :D

Thanks, Polar Juice.

Voting is great for the contests. The only way to keep them going.

For the writer, voting isn't constructive and doesn't provide a way to learn how to polish skills to please an audience.

My penny. I'm on sale today.

Good poems, daughter! I just voted on them. I was wondering how you can tell if you get a 5 or a 3? I found where you can check out how many votes you get, but not what each vote was. Or do you just figure it out yourself?:)

Hello, Manjaro

It is easy to know you votes when they are the first ones to a post or there are only a few. On the ones I was referring these were first votes. And then again, it isn't too difficult to calculate averages.

Thanks for your compliments.

Welcome to Literotica fellow newbie.

what?!

how could your scores take a dip?so far, u r the best poet iv'e seen here.

Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

Are you pulling my coat?

Thank you, paganangel. It depends on the criteria of the voter.

Actually, I'm fairing well even on those I know need revising. I appreciate your kind words though.

Maybe after a couple of revisions, the discriminate reader will vote me higher. :)

daughter

Exactly. The original Lit didn't include the ability to vote on a story. We added this feature at the request of the authors - a good year before the contests existed - who wanted another way to gauge the popularity of their work with readers. The reasoning was that more people are likely to vote than to send feedback - and that remains true. The voting was never in any way meant as a gauge of the "worth" of a story. For those who - for whatever reason - don't feel comfortable write a note to the author, they can let the author know how they feel by voting.

However, most people come to Lit to relax. There are people who will enjoy your story yet never let you know because 1) it's too much effort when their relaxing, or more commonly 2) it IS an adult site, and they're paranoid about voting or sending feedback.

You'll never - not here, not anywhere else - have a situation in which every reader votes and sends feedback explaining their vote. If you try to make this mandatory, a good percentage of readers will stop reading. So, we do what we can to give readers as many avenues to give some sort of feedback - author emails, voting, anonymous feedback, the feedback forums here - and generally some readers out of the 200,000+ daily will make their voices heard.

All that said, the voting is there for you as the author. If the contests don't interest you and the voting numbers aren't important to you, then by all means turn the voting off on your work. It is in no way mandatory. :)
