This evening the wife decided she wanted us to eat a bit healthy so we were going to eat Salads. She made the mistake of telling me to make the salads. I smiled to myself and started working.

Two large plates with high rims were the base.

I sliced several slices of sweet Ham and placed them on the plate. These were covered with a thin layer of Lettuce.

Two slices of Salami were cut up and layered on the Lettuce with some Onions. These were covered with another thin layer of Lettuce.

Two slices of Swiss Cheese as well as four slices of Cappicola were cut up and layered on. This was followed by several slices of Tomatoe and then another thin layer of Lettuce.

Four slices of Proscuito and two slices of Gouda were cut into strips and layered on. This was covered with a layer of thin cut Cucumber then the whole thing was doused with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar.

When my wife saw the plates piled up she almost fell over laughing. Then she dug in.

Oh good lord these salads tasted good but man were they filling.

Your "salad" sounds yummy. My wife made a great salad yesterday. She sliced a whole head of lettuce into wedges. They were then covered with goat cheese crumbles, warm bacon, and green unions. We uses a parmesan dressing sparingly.

It was delicious, but best of all. She prepared the meal while I soaked in the bubble bath. I felt like King for an evening. (In our house, I usually cook anything that doesn't come from a freezer bag.)

I have problems along the same lines. I'll start with what seems like a modest foundation but by the time I've put on the last layer of accents the thing resembles a piece of the Sierra Nevada. Needless to say the post supper activities are restricted to stealthily covered belches.

I read your post to my wife. She says that salad sounds like the best Italian sub she can imagine.

BTW you now have a standing invitation to out home if you'll make a salad for us.

I call a salad like that a "dinner salad" and I think they're delicious. The guys, not so much--especially my son.

I read this and immediately ran downstairs for something to eat!

Two piece of Lemon pie later, I'm back!

Perhaps not as healthy the salad, but my red head makes a great pie!

It's interesting how you feel happier with a full stomach.

I like a good salad with cheese and meat and croutons, and a chilled wine, ah lovely.

As delirious as Cat's salad sounds the absolute best salad I have ever had was pretty simple.

June in Japan is the rainy season. The temps as high as is the humidity or vice versa. The Petty Officers Club in Yokosuka Japan served a 1/4 head of Iceberg lettuce surrounded by thickly sliced tomatoes and about a pint of Roquefort dressing. The dressing was thick, creamy, and full of big chunks of Roquefort cheese. Everything was ice cold. So very refreshing on a hot humid day. That salad was my lunch every day the ship was in port.

I do not remember the exact cost but I am pretty sure it was about a dollar or so.
