I love being able to see how many people have read my stories, and of course rated, too. It's amazing how few comment, though. Whenever I read something I appreciate (often) I make sure to rate it and try to comment, to keep everyone going. I know I appreciate it a lot.

The ration of votes and comments to reads is always very low. This is one reason I do not take scores seriously. A story may have a score of 4.9, but less than one in a thousand readers bothered to vote.

Don't take that "reads" number too seriously. Some of those who are included may have read the story and wanked or frigged themselves while doing so, and others may have just glanced at the first page and decided to skip it. On my stories, the votes are about .3% of the reads (three out of a thusand) and the comments are about a tenth of that. :(

Comments/Votes

Another author posted a suggestion to encourage people to vote in a little note at the beginning or end of the story. It really works! It doesn't mean every single reader will vote or comment, but it definitely makes a difference. It doesn't have to be pandering or anything - just "Feel free to vote if you liked it and also let me know what you thought," a soft sell is all it takes.

This really does help get people to comment. In my first year here, I had few or no PC or votes, but then when I added a paragraph at the end soliciting votes and comments, I started getting far more.

Thank you for reading this story. I hope you had as much fun as Dick and Jane did. I like writing stories on Literotica, but I like it a lot more when I know that people are reading and enjoying them, and I appreciate it when readers take the time to express their opinions by voting. Like most authors on Literotica, I practically live for feedback from readers, either public comments or email to me. Such feedback, whether praise or criticism, helps me to write more and better stories, and I respond to it whenever I can.

I get enough comments without the soliciting, mostly comments on my character but I get them. I can give the OP some of mine if he wants them.

I know. I get the same kind of comments and from the same people, the ones we sometimes refer to as "The Usual Suspects." Those comments are not the ones I am looking for. I don't recall ever getting any signed comments on any of my stories from any of that group, but I have been around a long time and I have posted a lot of stories and there may be some I do not recall.

I have gotten marriage proposals in anonymous comments. That sort of thing ought to be put in a PM.

I know what you mean. Lately, I have been getting more and more signed comments as I have turn off anonymous feedback. So they felt strongly enough to leave a comment which I could reply to intelligently or the way the new comment page works they just forgot to click the anonymous radio button. :D

But it they put it in a PM it wouldn't be anonymous!

Then you would know that it was Lyle Morgenstern who wanted to marry you.
