Zach kicked back on the bed of his hotel room, flicking through the channels without finding anything to hold his interest. Boredom was setting in, and for an early Saturday afternoon that didn't bode well for the rest of the weekend.
He'd finished up interviews yesterday afternoon for a regional accounts manager position with a rapidly expanding medical device company. The interviews went very well in his opinion and he was hoping to get word one way or the other by Monday. Rather than fly back to Philly, where he'd just quit his job and wife after discovering the latter was having an affair with his boss at the former, Zach had decided to just stay here in Port Revel through the weekend and get a feel for the town. After driving around for a bit on his own last night following the interview, he'd lost some enthusiasm for that plan. It wasn't anything against the modest city - he rather liked it, actually - it was more the sense of loneliness. He didn't know anyone and was still in a funk from the tattered remains of his life he'd built over the last ten years.
His complaint, sent to a good friend via text, was answered with the suggestion he try an escort service. He tried to laugh off his friend's suggestion as bullshitting around, but his friend replied with some sincerity. "Seriously, man. You could use some no-strings fun. Find one who'll show you around town first."
Zach considered it for a while. It smacked of desperation, but slowly grew on him as his hotel room felt increasingly stifling. He'd never done anything of the sort before, but maybe his friend was right. He needed to get out. He needed to put the mess of his marriage behind him. And, for now, he didn't need any attachments.
He did a little searching for escorts in Port Revel. The city was small enough that it was relatively slim pickings. No proper service, per se, but a handful of independent women offering various services. Most of them seemed to be little more than veiled offers of prostitution. The last one, however, caught his attention. "Jessica" offered companionship for various functions, including business formal, weddings, dinner, coffee, and simply cuddle and conversation. Sounded like she might at least be willing to show him around town. Her picture, if honest, was of an attractive younger woman, probably in her late 20's. It had been carefully cropped and framed to hint at her face without revealing her identity.
It wouldn't be cheap, but if he landed this job he'd probably be making that much more per week over what he had back in Philly. He talked himself into at least sending an inquiring email.
Jessica -
Saw your ad for escort services. I'm visiting town, considering a move here, and wouldn't mind having a local show me around a bit. Late afternoon or evening, include dinner? I'm free through the rest of the weekend.
Thanks,
Paul
He considered using his real name, but he was slightly paranoid about getting set up. It looked good enough. He wasn't sure if it was polite or expected to ask about other services or not, but figured they could sort that out later if he ever heard back.
Heart pounding just a bit harder than normal, he clicked send.
