Lately I've been of the mind that characters should do things that the reader wants them to, unless it serves the plot, or the author wants the reader to feel something that isn't lust/eroticness i.e: fear, sadness.

Okay, so maybe my real thoughts are more basic. If I were reading it, I would probably skip over that part. I would be more invested in the prof and her relations with the student and her girlfriend.
