I have to stop in and cast my first ever ballot in a Presidential primary. Here in Indiana we never get to do that, it seems. What sucks is that Obama and Clinton were both here in my hometown last week and I missed them both. Presidential candidates don't come to Kokomo, IN very often.

Good for you, Boota.

One of the few hopeful things about the current circus pretending to be an election is that so many people are turning out to vote. :)

Voting in NC today too. :D
McCain, Thompson, and Brownback at Wake Forrest on the future of the Judiciary today also :D

I'm interested to see transcripts of that. Some pundits are claiming McCain "mocked" the idea of lifetime appointments to top level federal judges. Much as I may dislike that the majority of existing appointments were made by Republicans and followed their priorities, to say that federal judges should EVER be subject to the whims of majority vote or executive or legislative review would seriously weaken our constitutional system.

The framers of the constitution saw the independent judiciary as inherently necessary to protect the Bill of Rights and to protect the minority from the "Tyranny of the majority."

I know McCain has not taught constitutional law, but certainly he didn't seriously suggest judges should be subject to election? Did he?

Not even close!

First, Sen Burr and former Sen. Thompson were there with the former Soliciter General who argued everyones favorite case in front of the Supreme Court - Bush v Gore. He was the winner :D

McCain gave a nice intro into constitutional law and where the present Judges are overstepping. His solution is to appoint better people and have the Senate quit acting childish over conformations. McCain comes across as closer to a "strict constructionist" than anything. If the Constitution does not give your branch something, don't touch it! His model for judges is Roberts and Alito. He did mention that he voted for Ginsburg because she was qualified and hopes his nominees if he wins will be given the same consideration.
