I am sitting here watching the Cousteau Oddesy and loving every minute of it.

These are the programs I grew up with, and the programs that caused me to learn to dive.

What is amazing though is looking at these shows and seeing the old time gear they used and being amazed at it. If you are a diver now think about diving without a B.C. and many of the other nifty devices we rely on now. Diving then was much harder and much more scientific. You had to understand the dive tables, which were only then being created. You had to understand bouyancy and how to change your bouyancy without the use of air bladders strapped to your body.

Yes I do have some of tis old time gear. It is all in working order but I don't dive with it. I do have a spare back plate and some old style 60c.f. tanks that are in great shape. I would like to find one of the new model double hose regulators. (Yes there is a company in California that still make them.)

Oh and a Barracuda Magnet is one of the old style masks with the steel ring around the lens. We call them that because the shiny steel attracts Barracuda. They think it is the light shining off food fish.

Those of us raised in the land-locked Midwest had to rely on Sea Hunt for our diving lore. Burble. Burble. Burble. ;)

Seahunt was fun and exciting, and yes it did inspire many to become divers but this is the real deal. Old Jacques was the big gun in the industry. He developed the first production Regulators with his partner and he pushed for conservation when it was something people didn't even think about it.

Yeah, but how many times did ol' Jacques get his air hose cut - a regular occurence to Mike Nelson ?
