Odd little question here.

Since this does concern a detail for a story I'm working on (but I'm not offering a "story idea" for dissection) I figured I would post here!

My question centers around the phrase "high roller(s)". Does it "only" describe someone literally playing a dice game at a casino or could it work with poker too? As in, some rich guy that thinks he's hot shit and entering the VIP Poker Room thinks he's a high roller?

:)

Well, TheeGoatPig is pretty into poker, I think he should know. :)

Try PM'ing him...I'm not sure if he's still online, but...it's worth a shot...or a message. :D

'High Roller" is a general term these days. Anyone who is inordinately successful at a game of chance can be colloquially termed a High Roller. Originally, the term was intended for those who shot dice, but poker players and even those who succeed at Blackjack, et al, could be described as such.

Thank you all! ;)

No problem . . . BTW, many Vegas casinos have what are called 'High Roller' rooms, and from what I understand, the majority of such rooms are geared toward poker players.

Here it's a reference to anyone who spends freely (even someone who has nothing to do with gambling). You could be a high roller just because you rent limos, pick up the check for everyone, or do extravagant things.

BTW, if you need poker advice, TGP is very much into it. I also have a friend (not on the AH) who's a professional poker player. You're welcome to PM with any questions and I can put you in touch with him.

I'm glad you guys beat me to it. I just woke up and after reading the question I honestly didn't know the answer for about five minutes, and still wasn't sure when I came to my answers.

Why is sleep so difficult to attain with screeming children in the house?

Wait, maybe that's the reason in itself ;)
