Maigc the gathering, Yu-gi-oh, Pokemon, Gundam MS War, DBZ, Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Battle tech. There are quite a few card games out there. I've played quite a few of them and so have many others.

This thread is a card game style story. The rules will be a mix of difrent styles I picked up from difrent games. Please feel free to add your thoughts, good or bad.

Types of cards.

Creature: These are the stanard cannon fodder of the game. You play them they move and fight on there own but you can help your allies with other cards. Each has a name, attack power, life, and some have other specil rules.

Item: These cards increase your powers are your creatures. Some can only be used once others are permament. Each has a name and there effect.

Spells: These are on time attacks or deffenses. Many are quite powerful but there one time us makes them limited in power.

Battle feilds: I've seen one game that had these but I liked the idea behind them so I'm useing them. Only one battle feild can be in play. Once another is played the first one is discarded. Very powerfull effects that last for a while but they can be destroyed in any turn. Once again the card has name and effect.

Soul cards: These are the cards that reprasent the player. These are probably the most important cards. They give the players life and specil abiltys, but some of the more powerful ones also have a disadvantage.

Example of each:
type: Name, A, L, Effect
Creature: Lil' imp, 10, 10, can dodge one attack.

Item: Drink of Life, Restore 20 life.

Spell: Rain of fire, Dose 20 damage to one creature

Land: Dragons Lair, All dragon type monsters gian 20 to
attack and deffense.

Soul: Magic lord, 150, All spells can be used twice in a turn.
May only play one creature a turn.

The numbers are more for refrence then actully watching. It's to give you idea of I should be dead now or I'm now very weak.

The world

A hidden power was discovered by the people of Sil. A feirce power with much use sense the lands of Sil were filled with savage beasts and monsters. Certin people were able to tap that power and use it. They traped the power with in cards for latter use. Useing this power they managed to reduce the threat of the inhuman tribes and humanity spread.

The cards became a sporting game a way for those with the "gift" to show the skill and strength against one and another. Eventully they had a tournament to see who should rule over man kind. The winner was Kly the Pure.

One of the fighters with the skill and knowledge to make cards still. He made 8 kingdoms to each king he gave a difrent soul card dealing with an element. He rulled useing the suport and advise of his seven kings.

Kly eventully died of old age. A second tournament was held and a foolish new king came to power. He forced used his postion unwisely and eventully all 8 kingdoms left his control. A new dark age begun as each king died from old age and new and inexperinced kings took on the jobs they were not prepaired for.

2000 years have passed and the people now live with little or no knowledge of what happened so long ago. Still there are thos born with the gift of knowing how to use the cards.

Charaecters

Each chara should have a deck with no more then two rare cards. They also should have a soul card and thats all of there decks I'm going to ask for. We'll sort of map out more common cards as we play.

Name: Justin
Sex: M
Age: 18
Height: 6'
weight: 150 lbs
Build: Athletic
Soul Card: Hunter- 180 life, can make a ranged attack for 10 damage each turn.

Rare1: Dragon Rider- 10 attack, 20 life, Take control of any dragon, and canot be attack til that dragon is killed. increase dragons attack by 20.

Bio: Justin grew up near a martail arts temple. He spent a good portion of his time herassing the local monks. One in particular took a likeing to him. Master Tao, knew he could use the cards and began to teach him the basics of how they work. Tao learned his skills from study and could not use the cards himself. A drougt killed off Justins mother and father, so he decided to trvel the kingdom of earth in search of something to clear his mind. On the day he left Master Tao gave him the Dragon Rider card, the card that made him start his research two decades earlier.

you forgot ... Vampire (Jyhad), LotR, that Anime (I forget the exact name) & Star Trek.

Heh ...

Hmm ... you might want to add a special place or land card to the set.

I also didn't mention Lost kingdoms the closest game to my idea.

Its called Animehem. I bought a box, but it had horribly unplayable rules, so much so that some fan actually tweaked and created their own. I still have them around though, yep, im a proud owner of a cardboard copy of A-ko, B-ko, AND C-ko...

Hey, sounds cool, but some questions:

Do players have life? And how much? And how do the cards connect to reality? Like are the monsters summoned and played through, and can they be used in real combat against real monsters? Or do real monsters not exist anymore?

I'm a bit confused as to what soul cards can do, as well.

Also: what are the eight elements?

At the start of the match a player chooses a soul card. He then gains the effects of the card. So his life is determined by the soul card he picked.

Actul monsters are still around but aren't normally found in areas with large numbers of people. Creature cards and the like are actully sommuned.

The amount of time is up for disccusion, but right now I'm thinking cards can only be used once a day. The exceptions are soul cards wich are nesicary in oreder to fight.

The elements are Fire, Earth, Water, Wind, Metal, Shadow, Light, and Cosmos. Right now the kingdom of Earth is where the story is.

Thanks for asking the questions.

Awesome, thanks for the info.

So how many cards can a person usually play per turn? And how many do they normally draw? So I can get into the mechanics of it... maybe we should have mana a la Magic: The Gathering. ^_^

Also, should cards be specific to elements? Like Drink of Life be a Water element card, and L'il Imp be a Shadow element card or something... so then we can have battlefield/land cards that help or hinder certain elements.

I'm interested in this. I don't play these sort of games often, but...

Once these get straightened out, I think I'll post a character for review.

Oh, yeah: and how does one "use the cards"? As in, there are people who "use the cards", you said... how does that work? Do people actually summon from cards? And thus, special magicians from each kingdom craft the cards of their specific element for trade... and card masters are prized fighters... etc. etc.

I dunno. Just think about it and tell me what you think. ^_^

Okay you have a four card hand you can play any or all of the four cards in a turn. Creature cards remain in your hand. So if you play for creatures you'll be useing them and your soul card to fight.

Cards can and many do have elements I didn't mention that. Lands tend to favor certin elements or certin kinds of cards such as Goblin fort. It favors goblin tpye creatures.

Also in some cases you have cards like reef shark that can only be played in water. So you most likely will have to play an ocean before you use it.

Land cards change the suroundings, but the features remain the same. Say there is a hill in the midle of the feild. You then play the ocean above. The hill will most likely be an island.

Mana although it could be fun would just make the story to complicated to write in my mind. If I came up with some way to use it then I would agree.

Okay, I hope I understand this.

Name: Devin
Sex: M
Age: 16
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 135 lbs
Build: Slender

The only Card Master of his village. Possessed with the unnatural insight and intelligence of the Talented, he has protected his village for most of his life, despite not fitting into society. Drawing upon the natural energies of the world, he was able to find a few channels that allowed him to summon rare beasts -- thus creating his own cards. Thus, his deck is small (since he has never been able to purchase any cards from wandering merchants of rarities), but contains a wide variety of cards. He plans to travel to the tournament, buy what he can, and hopefully win or get hired as a mercenary.

Soul Card: Paladin. 200 life, can "cover" a fellow creature card one time per turn and take damage in its stead.

Rare Card 1: Eternal Golem. 30 life, 15 attack, Cosmos element. Spells do half damage to it.

Rare Card 2: Quiet Grove. Once per turn, you may select a single creature (including Soul Cards) to "meditate". That creature may take no actions that turn, but it regains 10 life points. Earth element.

It works for me. Once the thred gets going we can refine the dynamics.

You know, I just realized how long battles will take with Soul Cards with life points this high, and creatures with attack points this low. For example, it would take your dragon rider twenty rounds of attacking to beat me...

Maybe we should reduce the life points of our soul cards each by 70 or 80? That way combat will not take quite as long...

After all, it should probably be more "creatures duking it out and summoners taking the feedback" then "creatures annihilating each other and then having to attack the summoner", since its so easy to summon new creatures...

Well it depends on how you look at it. If I play him on Bahumat which has an attack of 50 then the total damage it dose migh as well be 80. 50+20 for the dragons damage and 10 for the rider himself. Which can kill the black mage mentioned in the first post in two hits. basicly I was planing on 10 being the minimum damage.

Which points out to me you should probably increase your golems power.

Also the rider is a Air type creature.

It'll be a while til we get to Buhamut which actully will probably have more damage but ofcaorse he is a rare card.

Also latter there will probably be unique cards which there is only one or two coppys of.

The site is giveing me problems right now. I have no idea why either.

Sounds good but I personally would think the other card was his best. The target gains the power to heal. Did you mean for it to be a permament card?

For any who are reading we decided to alter the soul cards. Hunter is now 130 paladin is now 150 in life.

It's a battlefield card. A creature can take no action, but it regains 10 life points. It's not all that powerful, considering the creature doesn't attack or use special abilities that turn, and that since it's a battlefield card, it can be replaced... but it's helpful with weak creatures.

You ought to post on the main thread, guy ;)

Oh I see. The other problem is it's effects can be used by the opnet aswell. Hmm well I take back what I said. I thought it was Queit glove when I first read it. I never really reread it.

Wait, opponents can use it?

Uhh, is there any sort of "Enchantment" style card then, that just applies in general to all creatures on my side of the board? Cuz that's kind of what I was looking for...

...well, I guess it would be okay if opponents could use it... but that kind of takes the advantage out of it...

Really the only thing like that are permament items but most olny work for one creature or soul cards. A soul cards power only works for his side.

But I reread the card. With how its worded we can make an exception. Because the user can choose the creature to meditate. Also note that the creatures owner can choose weather or not to meditate. (So you can't force the opnets best creature not to attack.)

Actully it can't be used by me. I reread how you worded it and there is a loop hole of one monster of your choice.

There is strateagy in here rather then your normal combat posts. It's why I wanted to try this.

Oh, yeah. And I think Soul Cards should transform the user into a semblence of the card, so they get involved in the action more. After all, a Card Master is more intimidating when he can transform into another being and beat people up with weapons out of nowhere...

And besides, this means Devin will be jumping in front of enemy attacks, and Justin will be shooting arrows at me. Which is totally sweet! ^_^

Actully I had planed on the hunter fighting with his teeth.

I have no problem with the transformation. The challangeer is aloud to pick who starts the fight.

I also have one rule I didn't mention. I didn't think of it really. You have four cards in your hand at all times. But there is a discarding rule. If you have a card you don't want to use you can discard it but you won't be able to use it the rest of the fight. So when you only have say two of a card it's a pretty big risk. And when you discard you don't get the new card til the next turn.

Make sense?
