Obamavision

I'm a full-on Smithian, I agree that people generate wealth, but fundamentally we're still dependent upon a finite amount of natural resource. As population goes up, the labor pool expands, and that's wonderful and beneficial. The brain pool expands, and that's wonderful and beneficial. But the fundamental raw material that we are dependent on is still finite, and no amount of labor and ingenuity can create arable land, fresh water, and fossil fuel out of thin air.

The Dutch created arable land out of not just thin air, but out from under sea water, where unaided humans can't live.

I llive in the REAL world, Ami. You, know, the one where the stock market collapsed in 1929 and triggered a world-wide depression because greedy people speculated too wildly and unscrupulous traders manupulated the stock market to maximize their profit without regard to the effect on the nation or world's economies.

The crash or '29 was, in large part due to simple fraud. There were 'companies' that existed only on paper and others that were inflated way beyond any possible real worth.

However, what cause the world wide depression wasn't just fraud in the American stock markets. No, credit the Smoot-Hawley tariff and the worldwide political response to that.

The same modus operandi, time after time by the left, those who insist some degree of slavery and forced behavior is necessary for mankind to congregate.

The American style of a representational republic, with enumerated rights and the individual freedom to exchange goods and services, is not a system 'imposed' on a person, it is simply an acknowledgment that of all the essential ingredients in any gathering of individuals, that personal, individual freedom, is the defining and essential one.

There is no promise inherent in freedom, merely the opportunity for each to go his own way without infringing upon others.

The left, aside from Oggbashan, never attempts to justify the use of force to control society, instead, always attack freedom and pick at ways it has stumbled.

You should be instead amazed and appreciative at the progress humanity has made in the western world with more or less degrees of freedom for the first consistent and long lasting time in human history.

Instead, you want to sell it out for some socialized, mixed arrangement that benefits no one and specifically destroys the best and brightest of mankind...

Such a deal...

Amicus...

"Simple Fraud" that was possible becuse there were no regulations or control on who could sell stock in what -- a "truly free" stock market.

The world-wide depression wasn't "caused" by the American stock market crash, but the Crash was the last straw that triggered the world-wide collapse. Several other things were building towards triggering a world-wide collapse, the US Stock market just got in first.
