I just heard that China has a oil rig off the coast of Florida, granted its 60 miles off our coast. WTF! So, We can't drill for oil but China can?

Now I'm really getting pissed off.

China is technically drilling in Cuban Waters, but yah, that's about the gist of it. Then again, The PRC doesn't give a crap about much besides it's economy, maintaining a stable society, with little to no regard for the peasentry (as long as they don't revolt), the environment, or even the law.

According to the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, since June 2010 the Obama Administration has approved 437 Gulf drilling permits (328 of which are deep water permits). These figures below do not include permits issued prior to the BP disaster, nor do they include permits issued for the Pacific or Alaskan regions.

Ongoing permitting: facts and figures (Please note that these numbers are updated daily)

Shallow water: To date, 109 new shallow water well permits have been issued since the implementation of new safety and environmental standards on June 8, 2010. Just 6 of these permits are currently pending; with 11 having been returned to the operator for more information.

Deepwater drilling applications fall into two categories for the implementation of our new regulations. To clarify these differences, we have included the narrative below. The deepwater moratorium was lifted on October 12, 2010, and is the reference for inclusion of new rules in applications:

Deepwater permits requiring subsea containment: Since an applicant first successfully demonstrated containment capabilities in mid-February, we have approved 268 of these permits for 74 unique wells, with 40 permits pending, and 19 permits returned to the operator with requests for additional information, particularly information regarding containment.

Deepwater activities not requiring subsea containment: Since the implementation of new safety and environmental standards, 60 of these permits have been approved, with 2 permits pending, and 1 permit returned to the operator with requests for additional information. These activities include water injection wells and procedures using surface blowout preventers.
