Obama officially announces

I'm fired up too, SJ.

The man has only been on my political map since the keynote address. But I like what I've seen. Enough that I have examined his speeches and some of the positions he has taken.

Now, that it's official, I will take a deeper look. Voting records, etc. I want to validate my gut feeling.

But I feel like I may get to vote FOR someone instead of trying to choose the lesser of two evils. And that is a wonderful thing...

I'm kinda hoping that Osama and Hillary fight it out so hard that the public gets so sick of them they start paying attention to somebody that would actually be a good president, not just an interesting guest on Oprah.

We don't even have THAT now.

Well I meant for the people that actually enjoy Oprah. Not the average or above-average thinkier thinker.

I saw something on Boston Legal that summarizes how I feel about the Obama and Hilary thing.

Denny Crane said something to the effect that there are two countries, maybe more...

The 'liberal' country... etc.
The country that elected Bush, is not comfortable with gay issues...

Is this country really ready to elect a Black President or a female?

Not "Talk the Talk" but actually "Walk the Walk" when the curtain is closed and nobody gets to see who they are voting for president.

I don't know... in most situations where my nationality is hidden, I still see a lot of prejudice. Even with people who know me, I still get some "Well, you're not like THEM, ElSol."

Oh well... at the very least, it will open the communication channels and we'll get to see how things really stand, won't we?

In a world where Jerry Springer lasts most of the season on a celebrity dance show so people can enjoy chanting, you think that Oprah-watchers are below average thinkers?

Wow. What an optimist.

it'll be a chance for americans to show exactly how equal all men are... and women and blacks ;)

Nope. I think there will be a black president before a female one, but I don't think either has a snowball's chance in hell yet.

Looking at the political landscape of America today I see only three viable candidates: Hillary, Obama and Guliani. But they all have problems.

Guliani has some tainted underworld connections. Still, I've said since last July he would be the Republican candidtate in '08. However, he has a liberal bent towards the Gays and abortion. Forget the conservative Republican base.

Hillary is a woman (are we ready for that?) and Obama is black (the south isn't ready for that). Franly, I like what Obama says, but we really don't know him because he's too new on the scene. The fact that he backed by Al Sharpton totally kills it for me

Hillary has the cash and the political machine to win. Her problem has been that she doesn't speak well. She sounds too "calculated." That, however, has been improving over the past few weeks.

Looking at the other candidates we have John McCain (for whom I have a lot of respect). His problem is, he's become a junior GWB. That's not acceptable as pointed out by the '06 midterm elections.

Al Gore and John Edwards are both losers. Joe Biden has already stuck his foot in his mouth and lost it.

But, who knows what will happen?

I've already seen Obama turn diehard Republican heads in my very fiscally and socially conservative work environment. If he can get my CEO to speak positively of a Democrat, I'm willing to give him a shot at the south.

Hilary is unelectable. There is a lot of hate directed at her, far more than at her husband for some reason.

My two cents

I didn't know Al Sharpton had back him! That makes me like him even less.

I know this isn't a popular stance (and I'm new to the conversation in this part of the discussion boards) but I want an experienced politician as my commander-in-chief. In my mind, it's the same as wanting an experienced doctor to do my operation or an ASE certified mechanic to fix my car.

Not that there's anyone who's put their hat in the ring yet that is appealing to me, so it's still a moot point for me.

I've had my bumperstickers for a month already.

I'm getting ours.

We've been waiting for this since he spoke at the convention.

I realize there is no Presidential thing here yet, but a young idealistic black dude and a respected, publicly spurned white chick that proved herself a trobadour? The odds are against both, but it will be an interesting race. My money is on Clinton, but only because it is easier in old school American politics to go for a straight white chick with balls than an idealistic black man who as not proved he has any.:D But ... we shall see.

Your first statement hurts the sense in your later one.

Al Sharpton would back any viable black candidate. Just like Jerry Falwell will back any republican. Does that make you unwilling to vote for a republican?

On the contrary...he has already proved his political courage by sponsoring the bill to pull out of Iraq by May 2008 and by acknowledging that he was against the war back when most were in favor of it.

In addition, his siring of children would seem to indicate the existence of male genitalia...

The man has been impressing me since before his convention speech.

When IDEA '97 was being reauthorized, the advocacy team I worked with was trying to get the attention of Senator Kerry while he was drafting his campaign's disability platform. Obama was key in getting us access -- and in influencing the final product. He wasn't even a senator then.

Welcome to the forum my friend, but you stepped into a hornet's nest here.

The AH welcomes free speech and different opinions, as long as they are all oriented to the left...anything other than that, ahem.

Notice the content of every other post than yours, I think you will understand.

amicus...

I'm getting a bumper sticker that says "Run, Hillary, Run!" But I'm putting it on my front bumper....

A bit early in the day for you to have your panties in a wad, isn't it, ami?

;)
