"President Barack Obama's appointee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs advocated in a recent paper the 'cognitive infiltration' of groups that advocate 'conspiracy theories' like the ones surrounding 9/11 via 'chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine' those groups. Sunstein admits that 'some conspiracy theories, under our definition, have turned out to be true' Sunstein has also recently advocated banning websites which post 'right-wing rumors' and bringing back the Fairness Doctrine. You can find a PDF of his paper here. For decades (1956-1971), the FBI under COINTELPRO focused on disrupting, marginalizing and neutralizing political dissidents, most notably the Black Panthers. More recently CENTCOM announced it would be engaging bloggers 'who are posting inaccurate or untrue information, as well as bloggers who are posting incomplete information.' In January 2009 the USAF released a flow-chart for 'counter-bloggers' to 'counter the people out there in the blogosphere who have negative opinions about the U.S. government and the Air Force.'"

Glen Beck claims that Sunstein is one of the most dangerous people in Obama's secret and growing civilian Army.

Remember, Obama promised a civilian Army every bit as well trained and financed as our Military Army.

Damn those magic words. By the way you misspelled Glenn.

How do I go about joining this army?

This gets to be a complicated issue and the use of the word 'undermine' has an ominous conotation.

Overall I think that anyone should be able to post in open forums or blogs within the rules of the operator/owner. Vigorous debate is something that should be encouraged. The counter to one idea is another idea and the counter to erroneous statements are facts.

The 'infiltration' and 'undermine' notions are very bothersome. There are those that think this is a perfectly legitimate activity. They believe that the best method of moving their own ideas forward is to silence those with opposing ideas. The current administration is decidedly left leaning and it is natural that many who support this notion are decidedly leftists. But I wonder how quick they would be to embrace this notion should it have been brought up by the Bush administration? And given the ebb and flow of politics it is a certainty that there will be a conservative administration in power in the not too distant future.

I recall the uproar over the overseas intercepts of phone calls initiated by the Bush administration. The left was having an apoleptic fit over that particular activity. I noted then that there would be a democratic president sooner or later and that that president was going to do the very same thing. Wellllllllll? Here we are in 2010 and Obama is still running those 'wire taps' and no one is saying a fucking word about it. My point was simply that once a presidents administration gains a certain power for itself the office will NEVER willingly cede that power regardless of the party of the office holder.

I'd be very careful of the policies that you embrace because they're more often than not two-edged swords that will come back to bite you in the ass when the winds of politics change.

This afternoon the wife of his adviser on green technologies was talking about "swat teams" entering neighborhoods to enforce the installations of green technology windows. I shit you not.

I don't doubt that in the least. He's surrounded himself with zealots.

I object to the leftists infiltrating and destroying anti-Obama groups just as much as I objected to the neo-Cons spying on anti-Bush groups. At least I'm consistent in that much. Hell... theres probably quite a bit of overlap between the two groups anyway. Obama isn't much better than GW and I didn't care much for either president...
