O Canada

Yay us! (I'd insert a smiley waving a Canadian flag here, but I don't have one close to hand and am too lazy to google one up.)

Who remembers when today was called Dominion Day...

I certainly wouldn't. Too much of a whippersnapper here to remember such things.

Vaguely ... I was in junior high when they changed it over. I'm pretty sure my grandmother called it that ... just how old are you drksideofthemoon?

I like the new name ... Dominion Day makes me think there's a sale at the supermarket.

Damn, I thought Canada was older than the States. You really do learn something new every day.

The name Canada is certainly older than the United States - as it was Samuel de Champlain who coined the name of the northern parts of North America.

we just haven't aged as well i guess ;)

I was hired this year to take photos of the local fireworks display for Canada Day, I had a freaking blast, even though it was raining and I got drenched. I'll be sure to scan in some photos when I get them back.

No it wasn't...they put all the letters of alphabet in a hat and had the guy pull them out.

He called them out as he pulled them.

"C eh, N eh, D eh!" and that's how Canada got it's name.
