Last week, at work, we had training about being nice to nutcakes. If a nutcake discloses that his treatment goal is shooting up the local mall, well, add his wish to the list and dont make fun of him or ruffle his ego. Because we're all God's Special Lambs.

I'm confident the nutcake who killed 9 people at the mall is known to everyone. They always are. The cops know them, the schools know them, mental health knows them, the neighbors and kinfolk know them, but no one wants to hang a bell around their neck so that the unwary hear them coming.

Yep. The article reveals that everyone knew this nutcake was a nutcake.

Might also help if people took better care of the guns they own.

I agree. Too many kiddies and nutcakes get hold of unsecured weapons.

Oh bad james your not supposed to call them nutcakes, they are mentally delinquent. Or is it mentally handicapped, perhaps it is mentally deficient.

That whole story is messed up, he spent time with the state getting mental help, apparently in part for threatening to kill his mother in law and nobody thought to make sure the drugs he was taking were working? I mean granted they check the drugs after I think 6 months the first time you take them, see how your doing and if there are any problems, assuming you never mentioned them beforehand. Though in this case i think they passed the buck so to speak. He was 19, as in when he started taking the drugs he must of been 15 and grew. Getting heavier is bad for drug effectiveness, more mass to drug so the same little pill doesn't work as well, I rather think why he went on a shooting rampage.

Apparently he had not been going to see the therapist or said therapist was not paying attention. There are easy ways to tell if a person is homicidal or not that do not require asking are you homicidal.

I know. I get ongoing training to remind me my clients arent whacked or nutboys....theyre 'differently-abled!" They have a distinct and different set of tools than others. In fact, theyre not clients, theyre consumers.

Several years ago the PC was so bad we had to call patients 'co-facilitators.' And the hospital gave them money to be in groups with their peers. Until a few of them started dropping by Emergency Services to have a look at their peers' files. They tried arguing that they were now treatment professionals. I ran them off. I was born grouchy.

That's actually kind of creative.

I should just hug you and say, 'There,There,' to help you with your anger management.

Ah, shit, I'll just let one of the uncontrolled screwballs punch your lights out. It's a question of human rights. (Theirs or yours?)

Actually I'm very sweet and lovable in person; most people like me. And the reason they like me is I get shit done and dont make excuses or saddle others with the problem. More! If colleagues get in the weeds, I'm always first to offer help. I also have a calming effect on angry people. I really do.

The only place I make nutboys crazy is here.

Where I work we're supposed to act gentle toward the nutcake while furiously dialing the In Case of Nutcake Hotline.

I wuz the IN CASE OF NUTCASE HOTLINE for several years.

When youre in a cage filled with lions and tigers, it's crucial to remember that theyre lions & tigers. NOT Care Bears or the gang from Sesame Street. As one old schizophrenic told me: It's like living in a nightmare.

So you keep that in mind. The other guy lives in a nightmare.

This brings up a whole new thread: What's the qualitative difference between living in a nightmare or living in a circus or college campus? I say 'none.'
