I love little pussy
her coat is so warm
and if I don't hurt her
she'll do me no harm

Feline she walks, stalks
unhurried grace
smiles, nods, air kisses
turns away
to prey
a paw on his shoulder.
Poor mouse
he thinks she's here to play.

So I'll not pull her tail
nor drive her away
Pussy and I very gently will play.

This is a failed experiment. I was messing around with nursery rhymes and trying to write something from a different point of view or interpretation. It's harder than it looks to get a decent result, exampled by my confusion over line breaks/ punctuation but I thought others might like to choose a rhyme and have a go.

far from failed, i think. Not what you set out to do, maybe, but I think it's interesting how you sustain the nursery rhyme mood even as the form gets confused.
It's almost archaeological. We get pieces of the nursery rhyme, and we can envision the whole from the fragments.
Anyway, I found it interesting and fun, so that's what I have to say about that.
:D

Your comment about mood is on the button, it is a constraint but is necessary to maintain the connection. In another example say Little Jack Horner you can try to produce a pretty crude erotic allegory or more interestingly try and produce something which has the same dumb innocence but perhaps in an adult context. I did one on little Miss Muffett but mislaid it, in that the idea was not to scare but to frighten Miss Muffett to stay... much more creepy.:)

It's deffo not easy I was fiddling eith 'Oranges and Lemons' which apparently is about debtors etc being hung on Tyburn tree and it got a bit gruesome!

i played with three before now, but they were undeniably crude and intentionally so rather than the more carefully composed example of the OP

here's they are, for what they're worth - which is nothing, nothing at all:

egg fried rice, egg fried rice
see how he cums
see how he cums
it wasn't much of a chinese shop
but he had such a way with his bold young cock
she almost forgave him for burning the wok
and egg
fried
rice

sing a song of nookie
muffins hot as pie
all the whores at Hackney
wanted overtime
and when the politicians
began to squirm and writhe
their madame, Cyn, got out her quim
and whipped them into line

Bare-y Mary, cunt contrary
how does your fine bush grow?
or do you trim
it oh so thin
or wax away, just for the show?

i hope to return to this thread with something far better to offer than these bits of bum-fluff

Oh, how I admire even your smallest bum-fluff! Good lord, I can write a poem, but never as beautifully ex nihlo as any of you.

For some reason, all I can think of now is Andrew Clay.

you are officially weird, gurl ;) a bum fluff admirer? dayumm. lol
yeah yeah. we all admire others here; i most certainly do, reading their poetry and thinking 'yeah, that's what real poetry's like. mine feels like some poor country bumpkin cousin by comparison. sigh.

sorry

Jack and Jill went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water.
Jack came quick and so did Jill,
How they'll clean up is another matter.

Merry Mary, quite contrary
Found a plum in her pie.
With a finger, she led Larry
To take her up on high.

Frère Jacques, Frère Jacques
Telling who? telling who?
Sonny Les Martin A! Sonny Les Martin A!
Roger'n men, roger'n men.

Jack be nimble, Jack be quick;
Jack slaves over the bandle dick.

Georgie Porgie pudding and pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry
When the boys came out to play,
He kissed them too cos he was gay

The Queen of Hearts she was a tart all on a summer's day;
The Knave of Hearts he stole the tart and took her clean away.
The King of Hearts called for his tart and beat the Knave full sore
The Knave of Hearts was into very kind of BDSM and bondage you could think of asked for lots lots more.

Starlight starbright
first star I see tonight.
I wish I may
I wish I might
have the wish I wish tonight.

The sky is vast and clear
and the stars command my sight.
I wish upon the mountains
when I sit alone at night.
I dream upon those stars
and I think in tuneless song
that the stars I watch you see
as well. The night is very long.

fabulous, dahling - i shall edit it, pronto!

am I showing my age that I remember her?

I love that little rhyme. I used to wish on stars, thinking it, all the time when I was little. I imagine many of us did. It was the first thing that came to me when I saw this thread.

Yeah well the other nursery rhyme that came to me was the one that starts: Ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross. Perhaps I should have done that one, and then I could be rude, too, my sweet Annie.
