I know what the response will be from a few, but I felt this news story was worthy of mention.

Sister Margaret McBride was forced to make a decision between her faith and a woman's life last year, when a 27-year-old mother of four rushed into St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix only 11 weeks pregnant.

"I think [McBride] prayed and prayed and I'm sure that this weighed on her like a ton of bricks. This was not an easy decision for her," says her long-time friend Mary Jo Macdonald.

As a key member of the hospital's ethics board, McBride gathered with doctors in November of 2009 to discuss the young woman's fate.

The mother was suffering from pulmonary hypertension, an illness the doctors believed would likely kill her and, as a result, her unborn child, if she did not abort the pregnancy.

In the end, McBride chose to save the young woman's life by agreeing to authorize an emergency abortion, a decision that has now forced her out of a job and the Catholic Church. (story continues)


Of course, they'll shelter pedophilic priests, but heaven forbid they save the life of a young woman over a clump of cells she carries that may someday be a thinking, breathing person.

Ah the audacity of the catholic church...talk about a bunch of old white guys and someone who is removed themselves from the rest of society.

Send both souls to heaven or just one...a big decision and I think she made the correct one. Good for her.

The same Bishop, Thomas Olmsted has :-

1 Refused communion to an autistic child.

2 Excommunicated 3 gay (but celibate) priests

3 Waited ten (10) years before defrocking, and not excommunicating a pedophile priest.

4 Worked for nine years in the Secretariat of the Holy See in Rome. His views were formed in the very core of the RC church as he worked alongside Cardinal Ratzinger and were in conformity with the views of both the current and previous Pope.
