I believe there is a strong and growing possibility that the people of Iran will one day free themselves from the grip of the theocratic regime that has crippled their economy and suppressed the hopes of multiple generations. With a population exceeding 90 million, Iran is home to a dynamic, capable, and business-savvy populace, individuals who are eager to operate in a system that values personal liberty, economic freedom, and engagement with the global marketplace. Their aspirations have been held hostage for decades by authoritarian rule, but the potential for a freer, more prosperous Iran remains not only real, is huge.

To grasp the scale of that potential, consider this: in 2024, Iran’s total GDP was approximately $401 billion. By contrast, Walmart, a single private enterprise, generated over $608 billion in revenue. The comparison is staggering. A nation of 90 million people, rich in natural resources, history, and human capital, generates less economic output than a U.S. retailer. The gap isn’t a matter of capacity, it’s a matter of repression.

Should the Iranian people gain the opportunity to cast off the clerical regime and reclaim their future, the path to growth, innovation, and international partnership would be wide open. If there were ever a moment for Iran’s people to assert control over their destiny and break free from the stagnation imposed by the mullahs, that moment is now.

Let me stop you right there.

Iran's current regime is EXACTLY what you have always aspired America to be like. Their system of government, the systematic oppression and iron-fisted rule of it's theocratic leaders, with no room for dissent, and absolute unchecked authority. You seem to imply that the people of Iran freeing themselves from the mullas would be a good thing- and it WOULD BE! I would agree!

But why, then, do you seem to want a brutal, freedom-crushing dictatorship in place for America? A white-nationalist apartheid-styled religious corrupt dictatorship, accountable to nobody, is your vision for America, and this is exactly the same government in place in Iran now. I am surprised, frankly, you aren't angry at Trump for attacking it since it seems like your idea of utopia.
(My problem with it is that is is igniting a Middle Eastern war, and potentially World War 3)

You go, Whoopi. :)

Groups like the Neighborhood Youth Alliance of Iran and the MEK Resistance Units have sustained a quiet but courageous resistance for years against the Mullahs. The destruction of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure is not just a military setback for the regime; it is a symbolic rupture. It has exposed the Islamic Republic as vulnerable, both externally and within. With the economy in freefall, internal dissent growing, and now, a dramatic loss of face on the world stage, the regime’s hold is not guaranteed. It seems to me that the opposition’s chances for success, once remote, have now grown, if they can act swiftly, unify effectively, and receive meaningful international support. A new Iran is no longer a distant hope; it is a strategic possibility. Iran, at present, seems ripe for exploitation by these internal forces or those of the exiled Crown Prince.

But Christian theocracy is different!

Seems to me this war will only strengthen public support for the government. Rally-round-the-flag effect.

Correction: it has exposed the Islamic Republic as WEAK and ineffectual.

I can’t speculate on future of the regime in Iran. But there are a couple of facts that should give Iranian citizens hope.

1. About 60% of the population is under 30. I’ve never met any of those young people there but I suspect most of them don’t like having their lives completely controlled by old men who rule under repressive religious doctrine.

2. The economy and standard of living sucks, despite the enormous oil wealth the government controls.

The Shah was overthrown by a coalition of several forces, including Communists. It was only a matter of chance that the mullahs came out on top.

Even the RWs should agree, this is one episode in history where it would have been better if the Communists had won.

People in the U.S. Don't like having their lives completely controlled by old men who rule under repressive religious doctrine, either.

We should all remember that.

We're not being ruled by repressive religious doctrine. Now old men and women is a different issue.

What is it with the Progressive Left and their INSISTENCE on violence?
You don't think any nonviolent revolution is possible in Iran, do you? Far more likely is a civil war lasting as long as Syria's.

Biden's minions no longer control the White House so the "brutal, freedom-crushing dictatorship in place for America? A white-nationalist apartheid-styled religious corrupt dictatorship, accountable to nobody" you fear is no longer in charge.

Thank God for Donald Trump.

Even you know that the Biden Admin never met that description and the Trump Admin does.

Politruk is the man proudly standing on a sinking ship, waving the party flag, and insisting the approaching water is just “democracy working as intended."

Is the present shitshow of an administration "democracy working as intended"?

Neither Israel nor the US have an objective of regime change
