First off, this idea, as the title suggests, is for a non-erotic story. This idea *could* be adapted into an erotic story but such a story would be different from my idea. I also don't think that a short story could do this idea justice. I have a pretty good idea of the beginning and various mini-ideas for the story itself. I apologize for the long description. And I haven't named my idea's characters.

Very short summary: Guy is given a slave (consensual). She isn't chained. She doesn't have sex with him. She does drive him around sometimes and does his laundry. She helps him with his homework. Having a slave changes the way he views the world and results in him having more self-confidence. It overall improves his life. He eventually passes his gift (the slave) on to someone else.

A first chapter (see #14 below for a possible prologue): A college freshman, the protagonist, is in a bar. He is alone. He's too young to drink (and has no interest in a breaking the law); he's just there to eat. He's alone because he doesn't really have many friends. He notices a guy and what he assumes is the guy's girlfriend talking, and the guy is pointing at him. The two hug, then the pair walk up to him. The guy speaks to the protagonist:

"I'll give you 5 bucks if you'll take her."

The protagonist really doesn't understand the request, and wonders if perhaps the guy is asking him to have sex with her. But he finds that quite unrealistic (and even if it was true, he believes in saving sex for love and would have said no).

Protagonist: "I'm sorry?"

Guy: "It's a fair deal. You can take her out to eat or whatever."

The protagonist thought maybe the girl was trying to get a date or something. She was quite beautiful and he had trouble meeting women, so it seemed like an awesome thing. He didn't find out until later that the guy was paying him to take his slave. In truth, the guy's words were somewhat deliberately spoken to mislead the protagonist, though this would be mentioned in more detail in idea #13.

I should point out that their interaction did not involve her being chained up or anything. He wasn't interested in doing so and generally she acted somewhat more like a sort of uber-servant. She'd talk to him somewhat like a normal person would but would not make him a part of her outside life.

This stuff would be show up over the course of the story, not necessarily in the order listed. #10 is the meat of the story. #14 would make a good prologue. :
1. The girl is soon sweatens the pot (i.e. encourages the protagonist to keep her) by offering to pay the guy $100 per week for the privledge of being his slave. She'll also pay any expenses. In fact, she'd give him any money he wanted (since she's his slave), but he never takes advantage of this.

2. The guy is not interested in sex without love, so he does not use his slave for sex. However, he quickly is aware that she *would* have sex with him if asked (as she's his slave). In fact, a contract which she had him sign with her (which included the stuff mentioned in #1) basically said she had agreed to do anything with him that did not involve permanent physical harm to her. There was a proviso that said she could end the contract at any time, but this was in place mainly because slavery is illegal and the contract was really more to protect him by demonstrating that she'd agreed to the role. The $100 checks provided an extra protection since she was demonstrating continued agreement by continuing to pay for the services.

3. The girl does not really offer much information about herself, so the guy very quickly comes to the conclusion that falling in love with her will not happen. She isn't looking for a husband, and tells him this.

4. The guy in the bar got rid of his slave because his fiance told him she would not marry him unless he did so. Why the fiance had put up with the slave at all is not explicitely explained.

5. The protagonist uses the slave for little things, like transportation (he has no car), helping him move in, doing his laundry.

6. The protagonist became a slave to the other guy when she was 18. She'd been interested in being a slave for much longer, but waited until she was 18 because she didn't want to have to worry about someone claiming her agreement to it was not valid due to her age.

7. The protagonist is really rich. She is somewhat of a genius and has done something (whoever writes the story can decide what) to become a millionaire.

8. When asked, she says she wanted to be a slave because she felt it an interesting role and believed she could improve the world by doing so.

9. At some point, the guy would introduce the slave to his parents, and they would find it somewhat awkward but would accept it.

10. Having a slave would change this guy's social and academic life over time. Knowing he had a beautiful, rich girl who'd do anything for him (including sex) would seriously change him. Over time, he'd become more social. He'd be more willing to risk rejection by asking girls out since he knew he had his slave. Basically, she'd provide a serious boost of confidence to him. He'd also become less shallow. Having a beautiful girl around would keep him from really worrying as much about the looks of the girls he now sometimes dated (he tried to be a good person and not worry anyways, but now it became easy). He'd always introduce his date to his slave on the 3rd date. Some would avoid a forth date as a result, but it really didn't faze him.

11. She'd often help him with his schoolwork. He would do much better in classes, though in truth it would be more because he worked harder and had more confidence than because of her tutoring. One teacher who he'd had in the past noticed the difference. The protagonist told the teacher that a friend was tutoring him.

12. The protagonist's friends were eventually introduced to the slave. He commented that she'd have sex with them if she was asked but that he wouldn't do so. His friends weren't bothered since they'd have felt awkward about it anyways (and they didn't have trouble picking up girls anyways). In truth, the real point was that he just got somewhat of an ego boost having a slave and got a kick out of showing his friends that he had one. They weren't really jealous of it but it was somewhat impressive.

13. Eventually, the protagonist would get married and pay a lonely guy in a bar $5 to take his slave. This scene would basically be a repetition of the first chapter (and the protagonist would use the same words as were spoken to him initially), but from the view of the guy with the slave instead of from the view of the guy getting the slave. Before giving her up, he would tell her that he felt that she had improved the world (#8) and thanked her for everything she'd done.

14. He would eventually find himself the CEO of a company (that he'd formed), something he would have been incapable of if not for his slave's influence (#10). When later asked (in interviews) the secret to his success, he'd say, "A girl I met in college. She taught me everything I needed to get where I am today. " The interviewer would ask, "And she is your wife today?" And he would respond, "No, I am not speaking of my wife. The girl and I never had that kind of relationship. She was my tutor, my helper, and my confident. Only after she left did I realize she was also my friend. She gave me everything and asked nothing in return. I am who I am today because of her, and I am not the only one she has helped. It would do her gift a disservice if I identified her; her work helping people would suffer for it. " He would say no more about her. A snippet from such an interview would work well as a prologue to the story.

15. Although she would always follow an order from him, she did obtain permission to act in his service without explicit orders. She'd occasionally show up looking beautiful and say hi to him just to mess with the people around him, who had previously not known him as someone likely to pick up girls. Sometimes he would acknowledge that she was his slave. This sort of thing tended to boost his esteem in other people's eyes, but most of the changes were caused by his own improved self confidence. Her actions in this regard were in fact more powerful in improving his self confidence tan in changing how others viewed him. However, he would initially attribute his improved social and academic life to her actions instead of to his own behavior.

16. His improved self confidence was somewhat of a cycle. The more he thought the people around him regarded him highly, the more self-confident he grew. And this confidence (and the behavior it fostered) made people regard him highly.
