A green leprechaun "paddy" logo with it's fists up as a symbol of Irish people isn't offensive to you?

Dude... You got some fucking serious issues. Are you Irish? If you are you have no pride!

This had nothing to do with Communism so please stop with the mindless bullshit.

If you are Irish and have any sense of what being Irish is about(Irish Pride) having symbols of Irish as "paddy leprechauns" which are not real people are offensive. Portrayal of Irish as fighters also has implications.fron the past....a people who are uneducated and prone to fighting and violence especially around alcoholism is a past remnant. So, clearly, you are not Irish and have no clue as to Irish history in Ireland, in the US and around the world.

Today, the Irish do not face what they used to in terms of racism and anti-Irish sentiment. This logo goes back to the 1960's...a transition time for Irish Americans where they were starting to be accepted by the broader US culture and citizens (white privileged folks).

Irish faced all the same exclusionary practices that blacks faced...."Irish need not apply" signs and " No Irish" signs were common and the Irish were relegated to the lowest, hardest and least paid forms of employment and housing.

Times are different today for Irish folks and this type of symbolism is a vestige of the past....it is offensive to me.

I don't particularly care what Notra Dame decides to do...it isn't a place I would ever considered to interact with for my own reasons....and it still is an offensive image of Irish folks and will always be one.

It's definitely a stereotype. But as an Irish Catholic who knows a lot of Irish Catholics, I haven't come across many who find either the nickname or the mascot offensive. It's also a reflection of assimilation — it's easier to joke about being belligerent drunks when you're no longer that concerned about not being seen as really American.

But the school might want to keep monitoring this.

Cul-ture wars!
Cul-ture wars!
Cul-ture wars!
Cul-ture wars!

Keep focusing on crap like this, Deplorables - in the meantime, adults have work to do.

Yes, I agree with you on this.

I'll put it another way....it would be just as offensive for a long standing school/University that has its origins in mostly white Angelo Europeans historically to have a logo called for example...

The Fighting WASP

....with a picture of a stereotypical white European with their fists up.

Whether you think the representation is true or not....it's offensive to do this sort of thing.

...and how easy is it to just pick a logo or name that isn't not engaged in stereotypes....come on folks...this is such a simple thing.

Who are the people making an issue of this in the first place?

Then there was the Irishman on a pilgrimage to Rome, who got so drunk that he kissed his wife, and beat the Pope's foot to a pulp with a coal shovel!

^^^
Oh my. Poster directly above me seems highly offended about name changes.

When the Irish don’t give a fuck then neither should you. Take your fake outrage and stick it up your ass …commie! The mascot’s been around since the Twenty’s and now people like you want to change it. You pretend to be the voice for morality, well, you’re not, you’re an idiot.

That's what I have discovered with Native mascots.
It's never the natives offended as much as it is the
educated white liberal who spent thousands of
dollars on an education that garnered them no
appreciable job skills other then the ability to
lecture others on how they should live and think.

You don't give a fuck...that is clear. I think that makes you the idiot. Lol!

Change is coming so suck it up buttercup!
