Nothing??

I sent the following riddle to a whole bunch of my e-mail contacts, then sat back to wait for the answers to come in.......

I'm sending this because I WANT to know the answer to the riddle, and to find out the answer, I have to send it to at least 10 people..........I couldn't choose, so you all got it! *grin*. You can ignore it, pass it on, whatever...I don't mind. (There was a whole long moralistic text before it, which I decided you didn't need......say thank you. *wink* )

Can you answer this riddle:

Well, of course, the 'hit shift' thing was a load of predictable crap, but I DID get the answer......in all the replies I received.

Almost everyone responded with just the one word 'nothing'.

This morning, I received a reply from Matt Jr. ..... it made me smile so much, I thought I'd share it with you all.

A cute but technically flawed answer.

Nothing is greater than god, depending on your views on god. Same answer for devil.

The poor have nothing? They might have companionship, love, trust, sense of moral fibre etc, and the reverse is true of the rich, but kids are more likely to think purely in terms of substance, materialism, and as such are more likely to get the answer than grown ups.

As for eating nothing? I did that for 4 years at uni and came out ok!"

This is the riddle:

What is greater than God,

And if you eat it, you'll die?

This is the same riddle with the answer (nothing) inserted in the appropriate places:

NOTHING is greater than God,

The first question gives the answer and nothing else matters if you have grown up in a Judeo-Christian religion. The riddle is confusing only because not all of us are religious.

If one sends to 10 people and gets nothing back? Well. That's the answer.
