Nothing whatsoever to do with writing, but…

I'm a Jersey boy, born and raised.

Currently live in Philly. But I'll never be OFFICIALLY "from Philly. "
So we are kinda yin and yang. Born and bred in PA (not Philadelphia) and living in NJ for two and a bit years. How come I didn’t know this?

My step son and DIL lived in Blackwood NJ just across the river from Philly (job related). could not wait to escape. I grew up in Amish Country, in Eastern OH, so know of what you are posting

I spent a few weekends in Dry Run, PA. My ex-wife and I knew a family there who had a dairy farm. Look it up on Google maps.

But man, was it strange. Appalachian without the poverty; it was indeed in the Appalachian Mountains. Not exactly unfriendly, but everyone knew exactly what was going on at all times. Even this family, who originally were from a farm near Harrisburg, couldn't stand it. The wife said, "If you don't have family here going back to the Civil War, you are a newcomer." I replied, "I did have an ancestor in the Civil War, but that's meaningless in New York City."

They soon moved to Goshen, IN (near South Bend), to get away from it. Indiana is very John Mellencamp mellow, at least the time I was there.

What's wrong with Blackwood? I've never been there, but I've been in Camden.

I worked at the water park one Summer 😊.

Can you see my in my lifeguard “uniform”?

My daughter worked, about ten years ago, as a "badge checker" on Long Beach Island - I'd have to confirm which township. Yes, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, at least during daylight hours, you have to pay to be on the beach. "Beach Nazis," as they were called. If you didn't have the badge, you could pay her on the spot. Of course, some people would want to break a $20 bill.

Willingly???
Well, passing through. I did take my kids to see the Aquarium and the USS New Jersey. We drove those times. A few other times I did transfer from the PATCO train to the River Line light rail. Even that could be a bit sketchy. Oh yeah, the Walter Rand Transportation Center, or whatever. That wasn't so great.

They actually did not mind Blackwood, and when I visited, it showed me that all of New Jersey was not like Newark. They just did not like NJ politics, and when they moved there from AZ, they had to leave a number of firearms in my gun safe that were not legal there. Since leaving NJ, my gun safe has a bit more room in it;)

The East can be a bit of a surprise to people used to the gun situation in other states. NJ politics has been a mess for a long time.

Newark has actually come up a bit. For one thing they demolished all of their housing projects - all seven or eight of them. No point in bemoaning the loss of housing, because they were all, I think, empty by that point.

Ohgawd. I can... uh... no disrespect, Em. Petite, slender girls in tank swimsuits are sooooooo hawt! Gawd.

I had an oboe student several years ago who was a lifeguard at the local pool, and I saw her in that uniform once. I had to keep slapping myself around as a reminder she was 17 and off-limits. She and I did become friends, along with her parents, who are nice folks. She was a smartie like you, but got caught-up in the usual small town nonsense with a boyfriend and didn't make it all the way to her architecture degree.
