Nothing but jazz...

Exactly

This was just sooo sweet. Probably as close as Chet ever got to Miles, and one of those dates you'd have sold your soul to be in the club for.

Come to Detroit. This year's Jazz Fest is going to be killer. This year's line up includes Pat Metheny, Sonny Rollins, Wynton Marsalis, Joe Lovano, Poncho Sanchez, Randy Brecker and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band

Excellent Selection

Wow, this is a rare jewel, and may have been Lady Day's last TV appearance.
She was definitely in her happy place here, but still sounding so sweet, and being attended by her court.

There's some interesting background with this recording date.

As you are aware, it was Lester Young that gave Billie her famous moniker of 'Lady Day' while they dated. Once they married, it was Billie that gave Lester the nickname of 'Prez.' Despite the magic between them, their marriage unraveled and it was a bitter separation for both Lester and Billie.

Years later, in December of '57, Lester Young was one of the musicians hired to play on "The Sound Of Jazz." However, he wasn't aware that Billie Holiday was going to be the headliner. When Lester discovered that Billie was there, he was going to walk out. However, others convinced him to stay.

Lucky for us, Prez and Lady Day reunited one last time and found the magic between them once again.
