Nother story score trashed by moralists

A new story of mine was posted up to day. I tried a unique style (for me at least). The story is nothing but pure dialog between a couple in bed sharing fantasies. I had several people edit and review the story and they loved it.

Once posted, the first five votes were three fives and two fours (deduced from the math) giving it a score of 4.60 until one more vote came in and the score dropped to 4.00. Seems like anytime there is a liberated wife with real or fantasy sexual desires beyond her husband in a story, there are a few jokers who are determined to destroy the story score in an attempt to punish the author and to inhibit such subject matter in the future. I think this because I have also gotten emails threatening to trash scores for future stories with wives being other than monogamous. I didn't much appreciate being told by some moralist what content to write about.

http://www.literotica.com/s/naughty-pillow-talk is the story in question.

I sure wish there was something we author's could do about these few crusaders out to save the world one hateful vote at a time. Oh, btw, I avoided the Loving Wives category and used Erotic Couplings in an attempt to avoid this problem. It was worth a try, lol.

Write on, talented people.

Not necessarily a crusader of any type really. That voting progression is pretty common across the board. I think there are voters who just like to trash the stories across the board--just for the hell of it and to listen for the squeal.

Did comments also point to this being done by moralists?

Yeah, I've seen the moralists in any category I read from as well. Some people also don't like lemons in their fan fiction at another site, so when they can get away with it, they mass-report them until the stories are removed. :(

Hasn't stopped me - I just set up a new site where lemons are a-okay, and I ignore the moralists. Got some hot ideas for some stories for here, and they aren't gonna stop me from writing!

Dude, a bit of advice--you are going to have to develop thicker skin. It is difficult, especially when you are new to the site, but you can't live and die by your scores or comments. We all would like to get all 5s and glowing raves all the time, but it doesn't work that way in most categories.

Also, scores will fluctuate greatly when the vote totals are still low. Once you have 100 or so votes, your score is pretty much locked in. A 1 appears far more damaging in the first hours your story is up than it does a week or two later.

Moreover, the 1s are often swept out of the system. In a day or week or so, you may see your score suddenly jump when are few malicious votes are deleted.

Finally, there is nothing you can do about agenda voters other than turn off the voting. Agenda voters are those who vote on the subject matter of the story, rather than the quality of the story, or those who are trying to manipulate the scores to promote someone else.

* I have found that nearly any story with a sexually aggressive woman is going to be voted down. Apparently, there are some guys who just don't like it when a woman knows what she wants and goes out and gets it for herself.

Agree

I agree that thicker skin is in order and it is getting thicker by the moment. Sometimes it is just fun to swing my fist through cyber space at the invisible slugs, even knowing the effort is but vain exercise and most likely utterly futile. Thanks for the advice and for taking time to comment.

No, not this time. I was just going on past comments and a few emails. You assumption may be correct.
Well, it just came in... guess I was right after all...

So having read your warning and now read your comment here is your 1 star to help the score drop even further.

On the basis of your last post, I went and read your story notes. And I'll have to say (yet again) that when you lead with the chin and invite readers to object to something, you shouldn't be surprised when a reader zips right to doing what you've invited them to do.

I think all such introductions as this one are defensive and invite zapping.

Especially when you're warning about extra marital affairs. That really seems to set people off, at least from what I've seen.

Guess it is part of the learning process, figuring out the art of providing meaningful descriptions in such a short space so readers' expectations are met and they are not surprised with unexpectedly offensive content. I'm a newbie here has you know and am still trying to figure things out. I felt a like an open, honesty warning about content up front might help, but obviously not. As you point out, it may have made things worse. Oh well, live and learn. One thing for sure, this guy can have his moment, but I'm not going to be intimidated or back off. He can fume and spout 1s till he dies of exhaustion. My skin has thickened already on this fine day.

I think that nearly all author's notes intros (other than giving something on the background of writing the story or relating it to stories elsewhere--or, in the case of a series, informing the readers how many chapters there will be and when the last one can be expected) lead with the chin, are defensive, and only serve to zero the reader in on possible problem areas.

I say let the category, title, slug, and tags speak for themselves and assume the readers are adult enough to just back out if they encounter something they are squeamish about or opposed to (in which case they probably shouldn't be reading a story board like this). This is their problem, not the author's, unless the author hasn't done a good job of identifying the story with the mechanisms in place to do that. These readers are likely to zap and negative comment no matter how many identifiers you've thrown up.

If you don't stand behind your story as you've written it, just don't post it.

Don't enable voting on your story. Asking a bunch of random joes to rate your story on a scale of 1 to 5 is just setting yourself up for a massive ego boost if you get lots of fours and fives, and a big crash if you get one-bombed.

Not that I'm saying ego is a bad thing, but you shouldn't let it interfere with your writing process. I constantly have to set myself straight whenever I post a new bit of story, because the sense of satisfaction I get makes me feel like slacking off. "No, you haven't finished with the story, you've finished that part of it. Get back to work!"

Great story

I gave it five stars. It was refreshing to read something where a couple can communicate and show their love for one another while sharing sexual adventures and fantasies. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you so very much. I appreciate both the vote and your comments here an on the story.

The story idea for this Naughty Pillow Talk came from a reader who wrote me about the story "The Dream," and in a subsequent discussion mentioned, "I loved the dialog between them. I wish it had gone on and on." Thus the idea for a "pure dialog" story. It was a fun writing project and only took a little over a week, which is pretty quick for me. I'm one of those who is forever required to rewrite even short stuff multiple times to get it half-way presentable.

Thank you, each of you, for adding your unique value and sage advice to this thread.

Be sure and request your official LIT T-Ball trophy from Laurel.

Thanks for the support

Just a quick update on my personal battle with the trolls. They threw ones at me like crazy, but thanks to some wonderful support, the story is still hovering around 4. What the slugs did accomplish was to get the story read a lot, made me some new friends, got me favorited as an author by a few folks, and not least of all, motivate me to do a sequel.

Thanks for your comments, sage advice and wonderful support. Off to write Naughty Pillow Talk II. lol
