I have known and liked members of the American Communist Party. They are charming, but incapable of starting a meeting on time, much less creating a Communist dictatorship in the United States. The CPUSA only has a few thousand members nation wide. It was never politically significant in the United States.

Marxism has a slight revival in the United States during the War in Vietnam. Now it is a dying ideology. It has been decades since it was a creed people would kill or die for.

It's been interesting to watch how the two parties have morphed over the years. As the democrats have swerved towards the "progressive" (new wave communism based on 'global warming' and 'equity'), the republicans are beginning to look more like libertarians.

In reality, they act like FDR Democrats. They like spending and ruling too...
Their only grace is that they are a tad less toxic than the alternative.

The whole spending thing is problematic but I don't see that coming to an end anytime soon. As you pointed out both parties are infected with that particular disease the only difference being which commode the cash is flushed down.

On the 'ruling' part I'm seeing signs of that changing, particularly with DeSantis down in FL. They're passing laws that are effectively prohibiting state and local officials to behave like authoritarians and in the ultimate twist of irony being accused of being authoritarian for doing so. Another example of your finger pointing.

The Cheney wing of the Party is probably more powerful and will prevent change.
Just look at her at the 1/6 hearings. She is the darling of the Democrat Party.
She forgets (I don't think she's too bright) how viscerally the Left hated her father
and will return to hating her once she stops being a useful establishment tool.
She's going down the McCain path, oblivious to reality, convinced that she can
straddle the political divide like a Colossus, forgetting what happened to both
the statue and the Senator who would be President and I think that in the back
of her mind, if she can publicly "destroy" Trump as a viable candidate then
there is a vacuum ready to be filled and she is that candidate for 2024...
