(For those not familiar with the terms, A/R = anal retentive, and OCD = Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.)

'Fess up, y'all. Are you a "not" (-organized), organized, super-organized, A/R, or OCD personality?

I'd have to say that in many ways, I'm a not or an organized, but when it comes to things like the clothes in my closet/dresser, I shift way across the spectrum to A/R. I obviously wear a lot of polo shirts, lol, and as you can see in the pic, they're "sorted" by color, "darker" to "lighter" from right to left within each color, and then the patterned shirts, again darker to lighter. What saves me from OCD, I think, is the fact that I use different colored hangers. OCD would have them precisely x" apart and all hangers exactly the same type and color.

What's your category, and are there areas in which you vary from your primary class?

ETA: Damn, my own poll and I forgot to check off "I'm a voyeur and love watching porn!"

I am super organised

I organise food on a plate

I organise my wardrobe as if it were a filing system

I organise books on my shelf fiction in alphabetical order, reference used to be in the Dewey Decimal System, but I have relaxed since I moved and now it is in subject order only.

I am not OCD (Despite what my friends say...) I am just organised.....

Oh, yeah! Alpha by author, alpha within author unless it's a series, then in series order.

Although it doesn't make sense, I'm an organised slob. I put things in an order and in places that make sense to me, but don't seem organised at all - for instance, my library books are all kept on the windowsill, away from my other books so I spot them and remember "hm, must renew those at some point". So, none of the above (except voyeur, clearly).

If I were not a porn loving voyeur I'd be better organized, so I chose "I'm semi-organized - some things are, some aren't."

Now that I'm not spending time wanking I just might get my place all Super-Organized...

but I doubt it

Yeah, I'm messy.
Very messy.

I think about organizing, sometimes make elaborate plans. But.... never really happens.

I do little attempts, like atm my son's wardrobe is very organized. But all the clothes I sorted out cause they're too small have been in piles and paperbags all over my livingroom for a week or two now...

I just rarely really finish stuff.

I might grow up yet.

I am about 80% organized. Because of various health reasons (being massively pregnant one of them) I can't clean and pick up as much as I used to, however, so some things have to slide for when I'm not too sore or tired to deal with them.

Most of the time, however, I spit shine everything and I'm the kind of freak that dusts, mops, vacuums and bleaches everything daily.

I'm like rinka.

The one thing, is that disorganization doesn't bother me. DIRT bothers me. DIRT I clean.

Can someone explain to me why boys tend to freak out over disorder but can't seem to detect when a bathroom is ready for cleaning?

I'm organized, but I'm also poor. I have the dreams of house beautiful, and the frustrations of seeing it suffer because of a lack of money. If I had the cash, my house, my yard, landscaping and retaining walls, and my life would be better off.

It's not a total loss, but I could do so much more with my organizational and creative skills, if I just had the capital to finance it. With recent issues and thieves coming to visit, I think I'm harvesting a nice little ulcer. The stress of seeing things not getting done does bother me.

DAMN IT!

Oh, and I really, really like gum. Now, porn with gum...I'm there!

I can't stand dirty bathrooms either. And I vaccuum often, just basically around some of the mess. Or I relocate the mess. Yeah, dirt's not ok.

This is going to sound like a really weird question, but do you have a dollar store around your area?

There's a chain store called "The Dollar Tree" here in Oklahoma where everything inside it costs one dollar. They have scented candles, vases, silk flowers, decorative stones, incense, paintings, wall hangings, and all kinds of really cute stuff that you can use to pretty up your house for SUPER DUPER CHEAP.

I mean, some of this stuff is really nice and worth more than a buck, I had a lot of people think our apartment was cute and decorated really well and 80% of my stuff I got at the Dollar Tree store.

I'm a slob. Clutter doesn't bother me in the least. When things start getting icky, I'll clean them. But disorganization? Not a problem to me.

I'm not familiar with that name, but I'm sure there's got to be something similar. I'll at least check it out. But, most of my needs are construction based (repair, alter and create and such).

The decorative stones you mention did catch my eye. I could sure use a bunch of those, cheap. Like I said, landscaping is one area I would LOVE to get some things done. In some places, I'm losing top soil after heavy rains. Shit, in other places, I'm gaining top soil! I've got a rock walkway I made about 15 years ago that I thought was sinking into the ground. LOL. It turns out it's just being covered with mud, from my neighbor's property. (it's a long story, and too boring for this thread). But, that's one way to become a land baron, I guess!

I need a driveway, where I can park my car close to the house. That means gravel. I need a retaining wall between my front yard and the neighbor's driveway repaired or replaced. I've tried patching it with cement, but it's just not working. I'd love to have the cash to replace the whole thing, but it's just not cost effective. And this is just the landscaping and such.

I need to demolish my present garage and build another one closer to the house...right at the end of that new gravel driveway I need. Some idiot decided a detached garage (when I say detached, I mean about 150 feet away from the house) was best. What the HELL were they thinking?

Damn, I'm stressing again. I'd love to fix all of this stuff. It's great fun to do these things, when you have the money. And it's such a great feeling of accomplishment, when you sit on your patio and look at the view, from all of your hard work.

I saw a bumper sticker once that said 'a clean house is a sign of a broken computer'. LOL

Or craigslist. You can get nice stuff for cheap on craigslist.

For that matter freecycle. I prefer freecycle over craigslist, because everything is free - but you have to move quicker with freecyle.

I checked several, because how clean my house looks depends on how well I'm feeling. When I'm feeling well the house gets messy. But when I'm feeling well I'm pretty anal retentive. No matter when, I'm picky. Everything has a specific spot it goes and I get irritable if it's not there when I go look for it.

Oooh, yeah, craigstlist and freecycle is a great idea!

I got some baby clothes on freecycle.

Not nearly enough, though, I need to go back and look for more.

I've gotten some of my favorite furniture via freecyle. My desk was a freecyle find - solid wood. :D Of course it's a bit small, and eventually I'd like something bigger, but this thing is SOLID. My son has jumped off of it and it didn't even groan under his fifty pounds.

ETA: For those who don't know what we're talking about and are interested you can find a local group here.

I am like this, minus the clever leaving out system on the windowsill. I don't think that far in advance.

I am a slob. Self admitted and loving it, but I do have a certain type of order. Things are just placed or strewn randomly about, but are remembered. Everything in my room is a mess, but I know that mess like the back of my hand. <<<looking at back of hand>>> Wait... that wasn't there yesterday!

If I roam into my room and toss something in the clutter pile that is my desk, I will know exactly where it is and how to get it when I need it again. The beauty of my system.

So I don't really know how to answer the poll... hmm. Last option seems most true at the moment.

OCD big time. My cups have to be in the cabinets by color and size. The veggies are lined up in a specific order with labels facing out. Books on shelf by Author. DVD's by genre.

Dishes done everyday, floors swept daily. Clothes in closet by color and function. All hangers facing inward.

It's a self soothing thing. Like at work when I'm stressed I place things.

My cups are organized, too. Their's two shelves - one for plastic cups (the kids cups) and one for glass cups. The glass cups are organized by color and size, too.

I group my books my genre, not author. DVD's are in alphabetical order.

I don't always get my dishes done, but my clothes are hung up by type. Pants together, shirts together, etc. And the hangers all face inward or I start getting twitchy.

And now you know why I wasn't sure what to put. When I clean i'm borderline ocd, but with my energy I've learned to cut myself some slack and not worry if the dishes don't get done instantly, or the floor swept with every mess.

I'm semi-organized. Places like my living room, kitchen, hallways, and all of that are always very clean, very organized and ready for company. My bedroom is a different story. I kind of like the pile method of organization. Things really are easy to find, though! It's when they're put away in more conventional places and orders that I lose things.

Work I'm very organized with, especially my travel cases. Each bit of equipment goes in facing a certain way, in a certain order. Most of that is to make sure it fits right, but also so I can glance at it and know that there are exactly 8 computers, 9 mousepads, 9 mice, 9 power sources, 9 adaptors, and either one or two (depending on the number of slots in each) surge protector(s) in each case.

Cleanliness is totally unrelated to order and I tend to be very clean.

I think it was Einstein that said that a cluttered desk is the sign of organized thought (or something close to that).

Im semi organised. With my work, I have to be incredibly organised, at home I would describe it as clean, but messy.

I do keep the living areas clean and my best attempt at tidy, my bedroom however is where I hang my clothes in the basket in the corner of the room. :D

Like others have said, I can find any bit of paper, for some reason I just remember where I put it.... my car keys?? well thats another story...

I'm OCD.

Tables in the scout centre MUST be symmetrical.

Master MUST park his car straight.

The cushions in the quiet area at work MUST be piled in height order.

My paperwork for beavers is all typed in the same font, the same size, with the same heading.
