Not much of a difference between a lottery game and a personal ad here?
The main difference may well be that in a lottery, the rules of the game are much more transparent. The chances of two people winning the main prize together here are similarly low.
Why is that so? First YOU, a woman looking for a man, have to find my ad and read it. And my ad must attract you so much that you'd want to reply to it. And you must actually reply as well.
Then I will have to turn out like you imagined me, when you read my ad, and put together an initial picture of me in your mind. And then your craziness must match with mine, at least sufficiently well. That both of us are crazy to a certain extent, because we believe in Lit ads, seems obvious to me.
And to top it off, you and I must find one another attractive, as human beings, and erotically. And begin to like each other, when we exchange mails. I mean you have to find me more or less lovable, and I must feel the same towards you. And – not to forget – both of us must be able to cope with the weaknesses of one another, when we begin revealing them. Because honesty and empathy ought to be part of our getting-to-know-each-other project, I think.
All of this together adds up to a rather low probability that in the end we will feel really good about one another; so good that we look forward to new mails from each other. And derive satisfaction and pleasure from them.
You need to be a very optimistic woman, I figure, in order for you and me to get anywhere. I am a hopeless optimist anyway, otherwise I would not write another ad here. It would be nice, if you'd reply.
