Not for me, I guess.

I've enjoyed reading other folks' stories on Literotica, and had a blast writing and submitting a couple of my own. I've also had some nice conversations here on the forum, to all of which I've tried to contribute in a thoughtful and congenial way.

But, truth be told, the negative feedback is just too depressing to slog through. I don't mind a bit of constructive criticism, even if I feel it's harsh. Intelligent criticism will only help me improve as a writer. However, anonymous hate mail attacking me, my work, and my kinks is not at all constructive or intelligent. It's just hate mail, sent by people projecting their issues onto me and my stories, and deriving some sort of pleasure out of pissing on someone else's parade. And while I'm all in for a good, spirited argument, I'm not inclined to sit back and take a beating from folks who don't even have the guts to let me respond to their attacks directly.

I know that any time you put yourself out there, you're going to get shit from some people. In the end, though, why bother enduring that shit on a site where I'm posting my work purely for the enjoyment of others, without compensation or reward of any kind? Why let some constipated misanthrope fire off nasty, anonymous emails telling me what a piece of shit I am and how much my work sucks, when my only purpose for submitting here in the first place was to have fun & share that fun with others?

I tried avoiding this by limiting the types of feedback I received for my submissions, but the site is basically set up so that it's all or nothing - either douchebags can take whatever shots they want at you without you getting a chance to defend yourself, or the decent people who offer praise and/or constructive criticism are blocked from giving feedback right along with them. Because total anonymity is an option, trolls and haters can lob attacks & slurs at a Lit author with total impunity, unless that author opts to just not get feedback from anyone.

So I guess this page isn't for me. A lot of hoops have to be jumped through to remove one's self from Lit (and, frankly, those threads dedicated to explaining how to do so all seem to be written by people who are entirely unsympathetic and even hostile toward the folks wanting to depart), so I'm just going to remove my email, change my password, block all feedback, and not come back. Basically, fuck it. I thought it might be fun to write a few XXX stories and share them with people, but some folks here are either way too uptight to be on a page about uninhibited sexuality, or convinced that they're Ernest Hemingway and the rest of us are just lowly peasants writing unintelligible smut which is an affront to them. I wouldn't want those folks at an orgy if I were throwing one, and I don't want to hear what they have to say about my writing, either.

Thanks to those who were friendly to me & receptive or constructive toward my writing. Anyone who wants to mock me for being too sensitive or melodramatic with this thread is now free to do so. Just like your nasty anonymous feedback, I won't read what you have to say anyway. Adieu.

This post proves what has been mentioned many times recently. Anonymous needs to go and this is why. People are fed up with their abuse, author and reader alike.

Best of luck to you.

Another thread started by Notwise and then this thread had me thinking. Now I realize this thought is only half thought through, if that, so if you see holes in it, shoot away.

What this site needs to do is only allow feedback from users who are logged in. Allow them to leave the feedback anonymously but force them to be logged in and in the background, hidden from the general public, track who submitted the comment.

Then if a comment gets reported as abusive, uptick a hidden counter on that user's profile. Once the counter reaches a certain level, say three, disable the comment functions for that user permanently. Don't give them feedback as to why. In fact maybe even make it look like it is still working, but the comments just fall in to the bit bucket and never shown to the world. Don't tell anyone about the policy or publish it in any way. Just do it. Oh some of them would eventually figure it out, maybe... the trolls don't impress me as particularly intelligent, so maybe not.

It's not something that would be difficult to implement or maintain and for all I know Manu is already working on it.

By the way: if this idea has been thrown out there before I apologize.

People need to complete a military boot camp to become immune to criticism and insults.

My new story has zero comments after 200 votes. It has lotsa favorites but no comments. Readers know better than to play with me.

Sorry to see you go. I've enjoyed your contributions on the Story Ideas forum.

People need to stop being bullies and assholes.

BTW, I don't get many comments on my stories either ;) But I do get email feedback that is usually very good. I even have a dozen or so "fans" that have requested an email whenever I'm going to submit a new story. I think that is very cool and a real ego boost. I'm sure it is a far smaller number than most of the writers here, but it is still cool to me.

Have you considered turning off the comments on your contributions ?

I write for myself, not for others and especially not for trolls. You can also turn off anonymous feed back, anon never gives good feedback anyway.

You can even learn from bad feedback...I've learned to laugh a lot at anonymous. He's such a sucker, always falling for the obvious trap.

This is my take on it. I believe I have actually benefitted from the nasty comments and the half nasty comments that I had to learn to sift through. Perhaps I didn't get as much as some people, guys for instance, but I'm sensitive by nature and it hurt a lot. But at some point I stopped caring, and that is a huge advantage for someone who actually wants to enter the publishing industry. You read the feedback, decide whether there is anything useful to it, and discard the drivel.

I LOVE getting positive feedback and really appreciate constructive feedback but I get to decide what is useful for my story or not. I know when I post a story whether I think it is good, and really I am the most important person I have to please. Then I HOPE other people enjoy it too.

Just my two cents. :rose:

I get the occasional rude comment here in the forums, but very little negative feedback in comments, and all my email is great. And my stuff isn't purely mainstream. Seriously, the worst assholes on the site are a couple of other authors, and ignore has taken care of that completely.

Maybe your genre attracts assholes? Switch around what you write about.

I checked. The stories he still has up are very recent and all on Loving Wives. Was it Harry Truman who said, "If you can't stand the heat, then get out of the kitchen?"

Posting stories in a different category might be an alternative to leaving.

No wonder he's get anon scum posting nasty comments on his stories. For my LW stories I don't let them comment or vote, piss them off I'm sure.

I like this idea, I think it would scare off a lot of the anonytrolls, and that would be a bonus for everyone. Though I would suggest that Laurel or Manu read the offending comment first, to make sure that it is actually offensive, before upticking the counter.

A dozen or so keywords would be all it would take.
