More of a heads up.

Many of you know I suffer from terrible migranes. A few also know of the hoops I have been going through to get pain killers just to function. My old Gp has retired.

This means I won't be getting any more pain killers, which means I am, more than likely going to be returned to the world of unremitting pain, day in and day out, that I was in before I returned to my old Gp and got medicine.

I don't know how long or too what degree I will be functional. I've had a wonderful time here and met so many great people. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone and if I just up and disappear, the likely reason is I've finally given up.

I expected this, but now that it's come, I really don't know how I will go on.

*Hugs* Colly. I'll keep you in my prayers, love and keep hoping for some kind of relief for you from this pain, you know I'm always here if you need me. We'll all be here when you need us. :rose:

Might be another stupid question but can't another GP prescribe you the same painkillers you had?

My heart goes out to you colly and I sincerely hope that you can find a doctor who appreciates your problems.

If you're gone from lit a part of my life will be as well. You've always been a most kind and considerate person, a source of inspiration to your fellow writers and you've taught us well.

I would also miss your spirit and uncanny ability not only to speak your mind, but articulate it so precisely.

I will always hope to find you here, but you must also do what's best for you.

With much love,
lil_e

PS I'll aslo miss you r tpying

I hope you can find a way to keep out of pain, Colly.

As for here, you are a big part of the AH. You will be missed, if indeed you have to go.

Best to you.

Perhaps your GP could recommend another GP who can provide care, and talk to him about your situation?

I'd hate to think that help is available for your pain but you can't access it. There has to be a way. :(

Please find a way, babe.

You know how important you are to me, and the heart will be gone from the AH for me if you are gone.

Like Lady Jeanne said, maybe your old GP could recommend someone. I don't want to see you in pain, and I don't want you to leave.

I really hope you find a way and a new doctor who will make things better. My heart goes out, as I can't stand to see a good person in pain.

The Earl

We can always send you cheap drugs from Canada? :D Edit to add: If we can smuggle terrorists, we can smuggle drugs!

Sorry to hear Colly. :(

You better stay in touch, you have my numbers, my email ...and if I have to I'll come out to you and rub your temples.

Colly, sweetest heart, this pains me so. I have no words but love,

Perdita

sorry to hear that colly,

i've had that problem of meds, and it can be a bitch to find a new source.
they will want you to jump through a few hoops, tests, etc,., try something else (aspirin), etc. but consider it might be worth it, even if it only took a couple months, for them to have no alternative but what you had before.

would Tylenol 3s do the trick? Tylenol 1's are over the counter here, and with a little 'better living through chemistry'....

I'm sorry to hear that, Colly. Rather than giving in to circumstances, maybe you should try and think outside the box.

I found this on the internet. Don't knock it til you've tried it.

I have used cannabis to treat migraines for about the past 6 years. I have found it to be the best medicine for migraines compared to other things that I have tried: namely, over-the-counter analgesics (such as Tylenol, ibuprofen, aspirin, Alleve, etc.) and to the prescription drug Midrin.

With smoked cannabis, the relief is almost immediate (5 -15 minutes), whereas with the oral medications relief takes 30-120 minutes. Also, the effectiveness of pain and nausea sessation seems to be better with cannabis. I can usually kill a migraine with a few puffs of cannabis, whereas I usually never get COMPLETE relief with the oral medications until I've slept for a few hours.

As you probably know already, a migraine can literally consume a whole day to a week of your life (and then some) if it is bad enough. I discovered that cannabis usually allows me to overcome the migraine and get on with my life almost immediately. If you work or have a busy lifestyle, this is something else to consider.

Another pitfall with some of the oral prescription medications, and one that I experienced with Midrin, is that they can actually cause you to have more migraines more often!!!!! This negative side effect of these drugs is a physiological response similar to an addiction. Your body decides that it wants more of the drug, so it intentionally creates a migraine to force you into taking the medication! When I first started taking Midrin back in the early 90's, I would have (on average) about 1 migraine every 2 weeks. After being on Midrin for about 4 months, I was having migraines about every other day! It was then that my doctor explained this weird side effect to me, and I stopped taking Midrin. Of course, not all people experience this side effect but many do.

Colly, that's really a shame. Still I can imagine starting at a screen must be awful for the migraines. Hope you recover quickly.

My sister is completely wheelchair bound with chronic MS, can do virtually nothing for herself, has carers that come in to get her up, and later to put her to bed......she is in constant pain, and has a very high incidence of spastic tremors, and nothing that the traditional world can prescribe helps the pain of the spastic tremors. Until she started smoking cannabis. The effects were immediate, relaxed muscles which alleviated the spastic tremors, able to sleep better, lessened pain. She doesn't use it all the time, just when the symptoms are so bad as to be unbearable. Her quality of life is so low its almost unmeasurable. She is completely dependent on other people for every single aspect of her life and living. But cannabis has definitely upped her ladder position, if only for a few hours now and then.

Then we can't keep saying over and over........Your box is full.

Is medical marijuana legal in the UK?

Unless you know an illegal grower or dealer, cannabis may be harder to get here in the US than a prescription drug, and could end up sending you to jail. California has cannabis clubs where you can buy medical marijuana, but they've been cracking down on them lately - and you still need a doctor's prescription to get it.

My heart goes out to you dear Colly. My wife is a sufferer of chonic cluster headaches and nothing in the medical arsenal has been effective. A girl friend of hers makes sure she has enough 'pot' to get her over the humps. Two hits and the headaches are gone.

Be well Colly. You will be in our prays.

Damn, Colly. That sucks. I have no advise for you, I just really hope that you find a way to get what you need to cope.

You'd be terribly missed around here, you know that, right?

*HUGS* Colleen.

I wish I knew what to say or how to help, beautiful.

I will say this much. Do not give up! As long as we're still breathing, there is still hope.

*HUGS* again.
