Ok of late there have been a lot of threads about gun control and I thought it’d be a change to talk about guns for a different reason, so here’s a thread for all the gun owner’s and enthusiasts.

I’d like to have a chat with you about some firearm’s topic’s like where do you stand on the subject of calibre, do you like em big and heavy or are you more of a small is beautiful person..?

Do you own a handgun and if so which one and why, who’s your favourite firearm’s manufacturer and why..?

Are you a hunter and what do you hunt, what’s your best kill, where do you like to hunt, and if you had the money what gun would you most like to own and why, or do you already own something exotic..?

And finally to anybody who want’s to talk gun control I’d like to say a polite but firm “Fuck off”, you’ve got plenty of threads already to talk on so let’s just hear what the gun lover’s have to say for a change, who knows you might even end up becoming an NRA member by the end of the thread..!

I'm a member of the "Speed Kills" faction. Small fast bullets with flat trajectories.

Do you own a handgun and if so which one and why, who’s your favourite firearm’s manufacturer and why..?

Ruger .357 (new) Blackhawk.

Are you a hunter and what do you hunt, what’s your best kill, where do you like to hunt, and if you had the money what gun would you most like to own and why, or do you already own something exotic..?

I hunt deer, for the venison.

I'm perfectly happy with My Remington Model 700ADL in .270 Winchester, although I do plan to change the stock and magazine to a Model 700 BM.

A question for you: Factory loads or Handloads? Why?

well if memory serves...handloads allow you to try new things and tailor the ammunition to the firearm more closely and make hot loads or weak loads available for different situation's, but factory loads offer reliable easy and cheap ammunition at your gunsmith's also not everyone wants to spend money on loading machinery or spend time doing it......I think.

glad you like this thread I thought I might get flamed for it.

BTW Ruger are offer a carbine that excepts the same ammo as as their auto pistol's, 9mm or .40 auto....? any thought's about that one.

Oh I just have to add this too for anybody who own's a pre 1973 Ruger "old model" Blackhawk or super blackhawk single action also a pre 1973 Bearcat or super bearcat, htere's a recall for them and you need to contact Sturm Ruger & Co..:)

If I were going to go that route, I'd go for the Navy Arms Winchester model 97 clone that is availabe in .357, and several other revolver calibers.

The problem with Pistol calibers in carbines and rifles, is that the powder an barrel lengths are all wrong for them to be effective. With Handloading, you can make "rifle" loads in Pistol calibers, but that defeats the purpose of having two guns of the same caliber -- you still have to keep the ammunition separate.

Handloading does involve a big initial expense, and the time it takes to learn to load safely and evaluate what you've loaded. It's cheaper in the long run if you practice a lot or shoot for fun.

I handload because the "high-performance" bullets (like the Nosler ballistic tip or partition) aren't available in affordable factory loads. It's worth the time and trouble of loading my own to get the increased accuracy better bullets provide.

I know you don't want to talk "gun control" here, but gun control (in the sense of being accurate) is probably more important than whether you prefer "Big Holes" or "Speed Kills." If you can't hit it, you can't kill it. Making big holes in the background doesn't do anything except scare the game off. :p

It may come as a surprise to many but as a kid and right up until I was 19 I shot air rifles all the time, now I know that air rifles are small beer to you guy's in the states but their all you can own over here without a licence so I shot them all the time and the problem I had was that I'm right handed but my good eye is my left so I shoot left handed, a little awkward but I'm not a bad shot.

I gotta say I love Winchester lever rifles, guess it comes from all those saturday morning's as a kid spent watching western's with my father.

I've decided to bump this up to give those who've just come on a chance to see it.......so.....BUMP..!

Pistols: A 40 S&W 10 shot Firestorm auto, An M1911A1 45 cal. auto, A Ruger single six 22 cal., an 1844 New Model Navy 44 cap & ball replica, a 36 cal. 1844 New Model cap & ball replica and a hand built .44 cap&ball single shot brass pocket gun.

Rifles: 2 ea, Winchester model 94 carbines in 30-30 cal., A 700BDL Remington left handed bolt action in 30-06 cal. A Model 98 Mauser in 7mm and a Western .22 auto.

Shotguns: A Stevens 20ga. bolt action, a Stevens 16ga. bolt action, A Stevens model 520 16ga. pump and a Sears 410ga. pump.

So far that's it. The only one I want to add is a Thunder Five revolver. Made by Century Arms it uses a 45-70 rifle cartridge.

I do hunt, some, but haven't been for several years. When I was in Oklahoma a use to love to run poor little thumper Bunny down with a pack of Beagles and pop the little bugger with a 12 ga. Made some really good rabbit stew!

What's the most you've ever paid for a gun? I have a classmate that collects guns, and he alleges that he's spent five figures on several models. All handguns. Is this normal, or are we talking Rolls Royce models?

Nope, we're probably not talking Rolls Royce here, more like it's model T's in fine condition. Five figures for a handgun isn't likley to be new guns. It's about right for antiques or other collectibles.

I suppose it's possible he's buying hand-made, custom pistols, but even those would probably just break into five figures. Collectibles (antiques, owned by somebody famous, used on somebody famous, etc) on the other hand, often get into six or seven figures if they're particulary rare or historic.

The history channel had an program a month or two ago about "Million Dollar Guns" focusing on some that have sold at auction for big bucks.

(PS to the troll: Bambi is far too wily and scarce. I got doe tags, and put Faileen in the freezer. :p))

My favorite handgun is

a Ruger Blackhawk 44 which I bought in 1964.

For rifles, I have a couple of Winchester Model 70's from that era my favorite of which is the 300 Winchester Magnum caliber.

I also picked up a Model 94A (antiqued version) which I had always liked from a childhood fascination with the lever action repeating rifle of the late 19th century.

I'm a deer hunter,Dove hunter..and i

Someday i hope to own another ruger blackhawk .41 mag single six with a six inch barrel. it's the biggest handgun i can shoot with one hand.

I deer hunt with a ruger mini 14 .223/5.56mm cal. 3x9 scope
and a twenty round clip..Yes i said 20 rounds. No, One shot 1 deer is my motto and my kill factor is over 90%. the twenty rounder is because it makes a great handle. With the strap over my arm and my hand grasping the clip i can hold it almost as good as a tripod can. Also droping to one knee and cupping the clip in the palm of my left hand puts game in one hell of a lot of trouble as the rate of fire is limited to recovering from the muzzle flash. This rifle has almost no recoil. I can reconmend earplugs whenever possible.!

For carring i use a Astra Constable II imported by interarms.. it's .380 cal. or for the non americans it also shoots 9mm cota. It looks somthing like a ppk:it has a rolling block saftey and is double action and has a seven shot clip and one in the chamber. It is very safe.! There is no way you can shot the thing unless the saftey lever is pushed forward. I use handloaded hollow points because it is a .380. I hand to finish off a deer one time and it blew a six inch hole going out. it should stop anything human if need be.

For dove hunting i use a 12 ga. pump 30" full choke barrel. Hell i can't even kill time with buckshot in it.!
It will however reach out with #6 birdshot pass the other shotguns and nab the bird.

I am happy to be keeping my sisters winchester 25-20 made in 1892 in my vault. It still shoots great but it is getting worn now and the parts for it are no longer made. t.

Oh.. i bought my wife a mini-14 also. With scope, clip, and strap new it was $503.00 four years ago.

My fave pistol is my Springfield Armory 1911. Just fun as hell to shoot. My most accurate is my S&W model 686 with 4"bbl in stainless. Very nice trigger for a factory job.

Handguns are fun, but I think I prefer rifles most of the time. Probably because I used to shoot Hi-Power matches, so I have several rifles for that, including a Springield Armory M1A and my old M-1 Garand. I also have an M-1 Carbine and a 1917 Springfield.

My hunting rifle is a pre-64 winchester model 70 in .308. I had a guy do a trigger job on it a while back, and now I have to carry a feather with me to fire it. Yowza.

For cheap all-day fun, nothing beats my ruger 10/22. When I'm a little more serious I use my ruger 77/22 bolt rifle in .22 mag.

My favorite is my M-1 garand. It just fits, and I can hit anything with it. Beat to shit, but that gun is a shooter.

I reload just about everything I shoot, except .22's of course. It's mandatory if you really want to get the most accuracy out of any gun.

I've got a stun gun, baby. 150,000 volts. Mess with me & I'll curl your hair. ;)

I had to give up my .357 Ruger,M1911 Colt,9mm Astra
and my .36 Navy replica.

I still have an Enfield P4 and
a .70 Brown Bess replica.Takes about 1/2 lb of black(jest).

how many of you guy's actually have the right to concealed carry your weapon and how many of you have at any time..?

BTW all you Ruger owner's again I'd like to remind you there's a safety recall on some pre 1973 model's, so check it out please and enjoy safe shooting.

I can carry concealed handguns legally thanks to being
squeaky clean and the great state of texas..and very often do.

One of two categories would fit a gun that cost that much:1. as WH pointed out a model T version in excellent condition, example, an original Walker Colt pistol, or an original Patterson Colt pistol or A Ferguson flint lock breech loading rifle. On the other hand some of the custom made hand built shotguns can get up there in price too.

I finally got my carry permit last year, after years of debating with myself about it. I carry mine while I'm on my bike and while traveling. My riding coat has a specially built in gun pocket and I have a pocket in the drivers door where I carry it in the car.

Anyone that carry's a gun and hasn't seriously contemplated why, or the possibility that they may have to use it, should leave the damn thing home.
I knew when I decided to carry a loaded gun that I may have to use it one day. I really hope that day never comes. I'd much rather go completely through life with out ever having to. And I can't say if I'll even have the courage to when and if the time comes. The only thing I do know is it won't be an easy decision, and I will feel the emotional repercussions from it for the rest of my life if I do. But if need arises I think I could use it in protection of a life.

I've held a matched pair of Purdy's (sp) shotguns and they were the most beautiful thing's I've seen, they belonged to a city trader in a London bank I worked for as a foot messenger, he was off to Scotland to shoot something or other (it may have been the glorious 12th I don't remember) and he showed them to me when I asked him what he shot.

The carving and the workmanship on those shotguns gave them a jewel like kind of feel, I think I'd be scared to shot them in case I broke them.
