North Carolina follows Florida in penalizing residential solar customers

I don't understand the outrage.

Almost all states grant the electrical providers a monthly minimum charge. Same with water companies. I pay $33 a month for water even if I don't use any.

Next is a surcharge to hook up your electric vehicle. Why are the companies doing this? It isn't about money. It is about control.

So you're ok with paying someone for nothing? How many more nothings are you willing to buy every month until your paycheck is gone?

$28.00 penalty fee for getting solar while having a electricity connection.

What a backwards country!

You want to make money off their grid? Gotta pay the appropriate fees.

Nothing backwards about it.

Thanks for bringing it up ....lots of States are allowing Electric providers to charge penalty disincentive fees for going solar.

Paying your fair share isn't a penalty disincentive fee. You can NOT connect to the grid and pay nothing whenever you like.

Of course not, dumbass. Stop assigning positions to me so as to further display your ignorance.

I bought a house knowing there were certain minimum utility charges. I didn't have to buy the house. The minimum electric charge is to support the local grid, just as the minimum water charge is to maintain the local pipes. If you don't like it, don't live in a place that has those charges. Or better yet, run for office and pass legislation to repeal those charges.

We're only considering it. This is going to be a national conversation soon. There are reasonable opinions on both sides, but solar isn't going away. Very rich people own electric-power companies. No one owns the sun.

Absolutely, and market share. Capitalisms shortcomings shine through in all this.

If everyone is in a state of competition, then no collaboration or cooperation to solve complex problems will occur. The idea of monied self interests solving problems is both a childishly under developed idea and one that has huge holes in it.

But, the flip side is, as was said here...the Sun doesn't belong to anyone. The resistance of electric providers (and their wealthy self interested parties who support and profit from them) are creating a necessity towards change.

If they were smart, they would understand the legacy of companies who were short sighted....like IBM. IBM once dominated all computers in the USA. Their reluctance to understand the public's desire and small businesses desire for personal computing meant that they missed the boat....and that is true to this day.

Electric providers may go the way of cable providers(Comcast and Verizon) who failed to see the "cut the cord" movement that has them hemorrhaging market share.

So you reject history, objective reality and don't know what capitalism is.

Must be Friday. :D

Lol. The "I didn't say that!!!" defense.

Then you go on to say you did EXACTLY that and you're ok with it. So the question remains, how many more nothings are you willing to buy every month until there's nothing left of your paycheck?

Yeah, somehow all that monied self interest back in the early 1900's which led to the industrial revolution didn't solve a single problem with poverty, hunger, medicine, social health, technology...

Meds dude...take your meds!

You have no argument otherwise, didn't think you did.

Better luck next time WillJ.

Spoiled brats who don't know how good they have it.

Yet at some level they do, notice how NONE of them are fleeing to the super amazing most PROGRESSIVE nations on the planet.

You would think SOME democrats would have some faith in their political ideals and move to Cuba or N. Korea where there is MAXIMUM progress.

I'm thinking they should emigrate to Ukraine, and hold little cardboard signs while standing on the side of the road proclaiming their allegience to all things socialist, in protest against the US, capitalism, and the inherent systemic racism we have here.

I'm sure they'd go except Kayak can't find a cheap flight for them...

Especially since Ukraine's sovereignty and borders are so sacred and precious.... must be protected at ALL COSTS.

But the USA and some 70% of it's people are EVIL RACIST NAZIS!!!! For wanting borders and sovereignty as a nation.

Well, you know how it is. Once an evil racist nazi, always an evil racist nazi.

I wonder if they'll be allowed to camp next to that 40 mile long convoy and beg for scraps?

If a state can dictate legislation over the Federal Govt on the pretext of we understand what our citizens want better than the feds...then why can't a community? Many utility companies are co-ops. What is stopping them from providing what their customers want? Can't have one without the other

BoBo still feels the sting of being called out for equating illegal immigration with armed invasion.
See BoBo Boo Hoo. Boo Hoo, BoBo Boo Hoo!

"Just becoz I support concentration camps for "undesirables" doesn't mean I'm a NAZI!!"

Except I never equated illegal immigration and armed invasion.

You're just trying to deflect away from the fact you support other countries more than your own.

Learn to read Rob.

They can, there is nothing in the law that would prevent them from NOT reducing the reimbursement rate. However even the co-ops have the same transmission/distribution overhead.

They are two separate lines on a bill. Don't be stupid...or maybe you are?
