Nook vs Kindle

I am a bit of a purist and don't consider the Kindle Fire to really be a Kindle. It's not an e-reader, it's a tablet! It can do lots of things besides read books. I prefer my e-reader to only be an e-reader.

Like the Bunny, I accidentally broke my Kindle, mine was a couple of weeks ago. Unlike the Bunny, I got one with a keyboard...my mom told me how horrible the onscreen keyboard was (she got a Kindle because I liked mine) and I knew I didn't want that! So when I broke my Kindle 2, I got the Kindle Keyboard.

I prefer it to not light up. I think they're releasing one with Indiglo, and I think Nook may already have this. But if it lights up, then the light is in your face. That's not good for your sleep patterns at night, if it's in your face like that. I prefer to use a downward pointing light, or my bedside lamp, to read at night.

Also, the Kindle is excellent in bright sunlight. I don't think the Fire is, since it's backlit. I routinely walk around reading (occasionally nearly bumping into people) and I can handle strong sunlight as well as shadows. It's awesome.

Yeah, I love my Kindle!

Damn, I wish I had known you could still get the ones with the keyboards, and I'd have sent this one I have back!

Oh, well. Live and learn.

Enjoy your new toy, Gracie!

I got mine at a hawk shop. :D It even came with a cover.

I LoL'ed.

Me, too.

I have an iPad ( bought the first, refuse to drop so much money on an upgrade). I use the kindle app often and love it. But, it really depends on where you want to buy your books from. I prefer Amazon, and might have pirated a few books... And all files are easily converted to go on which ever device you choose. If I were voting, I'd go with a kindle.

Ok .... HOW? I've looked and looked, cause I have tons of .lit books that I've collected over the years and I want to put them on my kindle, dangit!

The #1 app for e-readers is Calibre. You need this app, trust me. It organizes, converts, and (ahem) pirates. Not that I would know anything about that!

I need new glasses...

I read this thread title "Nookie vs Kinky"

A better option available

There is a new tablet the Google Nexus Tablet that is a full tablet so you can have book Kindle and Nook readers along with a lot of others. It's much more powerful and is the same price. 199.99. It's available for preorder and is to ship in 2 to 3 weeks. Because it's a Google device it will be upgraded with the latest Android systems where both the Kindle Table and Nook Tablet use Android but it's been highly modified to try and keep you from using it with any other services other then the one the make provides.

Worth checking out. It's the same size 7" like the other readers.

It's also going to be the first device with Jelly Bean the newest version of Android.

Gracie, thats the kindle I have & love, and you can read it in the dark if you get the right cover for it. I use this one & it's held up for over 2 years now with no issues or problems. Pricey, but well worth it.
