Non Incest Incest Impregnation?

A young couple pack up the trailer to head west to start their married life, though they are sad because they just learned he is sterile. Set in 80's ...in vitro is new, not reliable, expensive. She refuses to contemplate sex with a stranger or friend to have baby.

Along the road, they see a stranded toddler. The toddler does not know his name...only knows Mommy is dead, they've apparently been on the streets a while. Instantly, they decide to 'rescue' the toddler and raise him as their own. Since no one in the new place really knows them - they both have great new jobs at this new computer company "MicroHard" - they just buy a fake birth certificate and raise the boy as their own.

Shortly after boy turns 18, events happen leading to sex with Mom. Much angst. But then Mom explains "not really incest because not blood related".

Which is good cause next month, Mom missing her period....

...the anti incest crowd would of course protest that incest includes adoptees, so beware....

Sounds very long. Could be a lot of fun however, and might be at least a decent twist. But where do you post it?

And does it matter that he's adopted? It would seem that the primary objection to incest (other than inbreeding) is the cultural taboo of people in positions of authority and influence over younger individuals, especially parents.

it was the non blood relation part that led me to the impregnation angle... I think a lot of readers would be less uncomfortable with that twist if there is no inbreeding issue.

I doubt I'll ever get to this idea, so hope someone gets inspired.
