Whilst I know you can post non-erotic writing at Lit, I am wondering whether:

a) People here do 'other' writing everyone, that no-one sees because they cannot find a forum.

or

b) Whether there is some non-erotic version of this site somewhere that I just haven't found.

or

c) Everyone here either only writes erotica or has no trouble writing stuff that makes them huge piles of cash, and they do this just for a lark.

Personally I would like feedback, even if only seeing how many people read it, on my non-erotic writing. I have a feeling if I posted it here it wouldn't get read (and fair enough).

Oh, and I'm not having a go at erotica, before anyone accuses me of it. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't write that as well, would I?

No. My non-erotic writing goes to paying markets or literary markets. I'd go to writer's forums, but not to a free story site with non-paying editors. My erotica goes here because the readership here is huge.

i'm in the midst of a dilemma myself. my writing has evolved into something that doesn't really seem to fit Litland which is part of the reason why i haven't submitted that much in the last few months.

i'm actually not sure where to go from here.

make sense?

Personally, I think there is enough market out there for some people to read for free and for people to buy things with our stories in as well. The crossover is fairly tiny.

And if you have a quick enough turnover you could put out free teaser stories as backgrounds for your other work. All those characters that you know the backstory of, but who never become relevant enough to devote space to in the plot of your novel/etc...

Literotica has no subjective editorial standards therefore Literotica carries little weight on a resume. A non-erotic site just like Lit will have very little weight on a resume either. Why should I publish there when I can have some place that pays me and looks good on a resume do it? "Teasers?" Lit fills that need for me. A closer relationship with readers? Lit fills that need for me. To have someplace to write where I'm not known? Lit fills that need for me, too.

I choose to publish my erotica here because I adore the webmasters, I love the readership, and I like the people on the boards.

I'm a professional. I get paid for my abilities with the language. Lit may not be the creme de la creme of erotica, but I'm very comfortable here and I like the way Laurel does business. When I write for nothing, I give that writing to people I respect. I respect Laurel and Lit readers. I like what she's done with the place and both the readers and fellow writers make it a fun place to hang out.

What if this other site did the same thing? Why would I want to frequent two sites like that? I'd never have time to blow off my novel.

I voted for one of the options that hasn't got 0 votes late last night when I came home drunk... I wonder which one...

But now I agree entirely with KillerMuffin's reasoning. If you can write well enough to get satisfaction here you ought to be flogging your less disgusting, shameful pieces to a paying public.

'No man but a blockhead ever wrote, except for money,' said Dr Johnson, possibly too refined to add, 'or to whack off'.

Hmm.

I don't know if this constitues as the same thing, but over on EZBoard I have a large network of writers I work with on mostly non-erotic writing, usually high fantasy or science fiction. Its all for free, and I have almost novel length backstories for the characters I write, simply because I enjoy it and the interaction with others.

But then I'm weird.

To me, the erotica isn't THE much important part about writing for Literotica. It's the writing in itself, and the fat that so many people read my stories, and every now and then, I get feedback for them.
I'm also writing for another site. Why, yes, it's HP-related, how on earth did you guess?

there is no 'other' category....some of us barely have time for Lit. We might be interested in a non-erotic story site, but gotta prioritize:D

The only non-erotic story I've put on the net is How David Happened, which I posted on Lit. I think I'd visit a non-erotic site to read but I can't believe it'd have as many visitors as an erotic fiction site like Literotica does, so any new stories that I didn't want to secrete away in my "special hidden projects for future global domination file (only to be seen by paying editors)" would probably end up here.

I don't know about that. The admittedly single contribution I've made to literotica is a hundred times better than the crap I churn out for the commercial market.

God, I hate womens magazines.
