Hi Everyone,

Let me start by saying i know which website this is and i love both reading and writing the erotic stories here.

But i wanted to start a thread that i hope is not already buzzing around. For me i have found the more i write the more i want to write. My stories started off short and are slowly becoming novellas and are involving deeper emotion and thought. For me the next step is too write a story with no sex which has to stand on its own with nothing but the narrative and character to hold it up.

How many other people here dabble in the non-erotic genre and how do you feel? I have noticed that theres not a strong readership in the non-erotic section on lit so how do you go about getting readers?

Thanks Jack

Most of what I'm writing nowadays is non-erotic....and the story of mine that has the most votes is non-erotic, so I don't think it's all that difficult to get readers, or at least, I haven't found it difficult. :)

Thanks Cloudy,

My new years resolution is going to be posting stories up for that catergory so hopefully i can cross my fingers and have some luck too.

Abigail Slaughter, although in the romance category has no recognisable sex.

Tree Hugging Can Be Fun (romance again) has a tacked on sex scene at the end.

For me, strong characters tend to be more 'private' about their sex and, when writing, the sex takes a back stage role.

I have a few stories in the non-erotic category and have fairly good readership and comments thought not many votes and one in the sci-fi category even though there is no sex in it at all it has enough votes to give it a red H.

I too have found that I write less and less erotica into my stories.

I agree with both of you. I am writing more non-erotic not because its in anyway a higher form of writing but i find that my characters develop more depth when not getting it on

I think that there is a place for no-erotica in all writers work. It can be hard for me not to put in at least the hint of sex because SEX is such a part of the human condition.

THere are many ways to put sex into a story and not describe the penitrating magisty of her/his climax.

Also there is a larger market for non-descriptive romance. I was at the store today and looked at the bodice rippers on the book shelves. Lots of the stories were repeats of standard plots perhaps changed a little but at $7.99 I guess you don't get Tolstoy.

Sure, I write quite a bit that isn't erotic. Just don't put much of it here--on this erotica site. They have a "nonerotic" category here, so it's fine to post it here, though.

I'm turning towards erotic romance in my style of genre. I find it much more interesting than just erotic fantasy that I started submitting here initially. I think there is a future in romance and always was.

:)

I sort it did that backward from Jack. I wrote tons of non-erotic stuff before I found lit. The only reason I started writing erotic stuff, really, was because a friend showed me this place, and Literotica was... well, about erotica.

Now I think I've been corrupted... :cattail:

I've put some earlier non-erotic pieces here, some have been well received, some not. But that was for Survivor. Honestly, I wouldn't have thought of publishing in the non-erotic category on Lit otherwise. Seems a strange place to find an audience for "mainstream" or non-erotic work...

I'm writing more non-erotic material these days. And my Chase Cooder story really doesn't need it (other things, yes, but not the sex).

I've never worried much about readership in the NE category here. I'd say write strong stuff and it will get read. Of course, you must invite readers with a good title and description.

I could not agree with you more Jomar.

We are all told not to judge a book by its cover but as an author you really need to make sure your cover is as good as it can be. Its such a shame when really good stories get over looked because the title and description doesnt convey what is inside.

On that same note the description field is often not long enough for much expansion at all anyway

Hey! I too, started to venture out after writing erotica here. I think writing erotica is a big help to writing other things later. Erotic writing has so much description in it that it really helps you down the road.

Something funny that I do find myself doing sometimes when I write other stories is that I want to throw in a sex scene here and there. It's hard to stop just at a kiss in a PG story.

I noticed there was a "Romance" category here, so I thought I'd start a new story with more romance in it in place of sex, so we'll see how it goes. Great topic, so thanks for starting it!

Good luck moving into the romance cat. From what i have read those stories live and die by the story and character development so its a fabulous place to extend yourself in
