Non-Consent/Reluctance Readers, I need your help

When I was about to write my first incest story, I posted a thread here to get some advice, and the responses and help were so great, I thought I would try it again.

The story I am planning will fall into the non-consent and reluctance category and I was wondering whether readers of this category do actually enjoy a plot and a storyline rather than the standard story where girl goes for a walk in a dark place, or comes home alone and is jumped and raped.

I guess what I'm asking is, if there is no sex for the first Lit page and a half, am I stretching it? I will obviously build up the tension between the characters which I think, when the non-consensual sex happens, will make it a lot more powerful. I dont see the story being longer than about 3-4 Lit pages in total.

The reason I'm asking all this, is because I'm thinking of writing this story with an Earth Day theme (and most of the 'earthy' description and setting will fill the first Lit page). Obviously, I want to be sure of getting enough views and holding the readers' interest to at least get 25 votes, which will enable me to 'qualify' for the contest. Of course, getting the highest score is another matter entirely...

:D

So, your views are much needed and appreciated.

Thanks,

Green,

Earthday contest :confused: Yeah what ever! Write the story you want to write and then decide if it really belongs in a silly contest.

As you may be aware ther is no such thing as true rape here on Lit. it is more a masked category called 'nonconsent' which if you wish to have a story posted means the character being "Raped" will in some way enjoy it.

If you take a look through the stories and the one that score fairly high, dismissing the out of category and the puke me stories. You will find they seem to rate best with some kind of story line.

I am not sure why but many times the story is really far fetched this seems to be ok in this category. You are really writing two categories "Earth day" and "Nonconsent" that makes very little difference as to your story just keep it in mind.

The normal path for a 'nonconsent/reluctance' would be within the first few paragraphs give some kind of abnormal sexual behavior. Some stories go into full blown sex while others describe a pattern being set.

I think it is important to this reader type to clarify exactly what is going to take place. As they seem to be reading for a specific type of nonconsent. That is hard because for some readers they are looking for what is deep dark and rape like. For others it is more just a getting a person into an awkward position and letting them want to be forced. ( as in light bondage or even as mild as just forced to flash.)

The main story in general seem to be more of a filler as to how the situation occurs, but the real story for the reader is the event the exact moment of the degragation takes place.

That is where the votes are going to be decided. How good was the moment and was it what they wanted to read. And of course was it what was foreshadowed to them from the begining of the story and title. Title and description are very important in this category, they must reflect the main idea. Mis-led readers will prove a point by voting for you.

This is why chain/ multiple chapter stories do well in this category because the reader knows what to expect they know what they want and it is delivered time after time. Thus no disappointment a higher score.

I don't want to tell you no but 3 or four lit pages is almost to long for a one time wonder nonconsent story. These readers seem to want to get to busness. They don't care if Mary has friends, they don't care if the grass is green or yellow.

They want to know exactly how the flesh was twisted or pressed against the glossy midnight black leather strap. They want the feeling of the dominated or the dom. A good story never has to ever see the light of day in fact it is better if all the frilly crap is ommited. ( that is why I don't normally write NC I like the frilly details)

Here is what in my opinion a good NC story out lines like. Not really room for frilly stuff if it is going to be four pages they better be detail pages over the main event or just expect unhappy readers.

-Mary sub-Nice girl next door with a fantasy
-Jane Dom-Ruffy tuffy always looking for just one more step
-Tom Mary's Hubby -wants to please wife but not capable of knowing how
~~~~~~~~
Tom and mary talk over ruff sex
1 Mary confesses of fantasy
1a Fantasy of ???
2 tom agree
Tom and mary look
1Tom finds jane
1a Jane agrees
2Mary has no clue
mary abducted by Jane and friends
1 Mary humiliated
1a mary scared
2 Jane gets crazy and pushes the edge with mary
2a Jane wants more commitment from mary
3 Mary becomes aroused
3a mary is now Janes
Tom and mary talk about the new future
NC is a tuff category with some of the lowest ratings on Lit as the reader is a specific reader. I think out of the whole category there are only like 250 stories that rate over 4.5 in almost 3k. And most of them are barely above that.
The ratings are based on what the reader finds erotic and you will have many different types of specific readers voting. If it were me I would not pick NC for a contest because NC just does not give high ratings because of the reader type. The best story on the woman in the alley can have 30 "1" votes because the reader is a humiliation fan looking for the reluctance. Or vice-versa
When I write this category it is for feedback alone not votes. Votes are stupid when you have a diversified group of readers.
Just some of my thoughts, I hope you can do well and I am sure if you really place some solid effort into the story you will.
Without meaning to blow my own trumpet (much!), I have a nonconsent/reluctance story, which is currently rated at 4.75. I do have a lot of plot going on, there is the set up, and the actual "capture", then the "rape" and "torture". HOWEVER, it is told completely from the POV of the woman, and it turns out to be a fantasy of hers, that someone close to her knew about and set up. My story is not a rape story, it's just set up to look that way in the beginning. The true essence of n/c, I think.
It is very important with n/c to get the tone right, and a lot of this comes from getting the reader to actually care for the characters and what happens to them. I want to feel and understand the emotions of the woman, and precisely why she might be enjoying the whole experience.
I hope some of that helps.
Toot! Toot!
No 'Toot' away I saw your story on the top list. I wasn't going to mention all the authors that are up there because I would consider it a given. I would be looking at the top list and look how they wrote or what they did to bring in the votes.
Not that I read naughty stories or anything! :D I have a friend that does yea yea that's it!
Psst; you did notice I said Ch stories tend to do better? And 4.75 places you at spot 18 on the top list of the category. Many of the categories 4.75 would barely make the list. And 4.75 is a high score in my opinion but there are not many high scores in NC. was all I was saying. Certainly not for one time wonders.
Keep in mind Hun one bad score will knock you off the list. When I look at high ranked stories I tend to look for multiple votes near 50-100 as then one 5 or 1 don't make much difference.
Still look at the list above you and here let me say
"Doctor Pretty", "Tell Him Valdez is Coming" are the only two that are not a CH series. Almost all the higher voted stories in this category are Ch series. It is a tuff crowd!
Kate, I think many of your readers are also dedicated readers :heart: following your series.
Yep, all very good points there, and I completely agree!
I don't really pay much mind to scores (well, not much), but when I saw what you said about n/c scores, I just had to check mine. I was pretty chuffed. But, you're right, it doesn't have that many votes, and one wayward one would knock it down quite considerably. (You watch, it's gonna happen now). ;)
Anyway, back to what I like best in n/c stories... plot, sex, character development, sex, conflict, sex, reslolution, and sex. :D
Katie-Lou :rose:
I think you nailed it right there. "conflict, sex, reslolution" That is what makes or breaks a NC story.
How well the conflict is described. Especially the inner conflict of the person. Then how is it resolved?
I agree NC is for me anyway all about feelings expressed due to an unatural enviroment. Most likely I will never experience many of these situations. So I want to know the rush from the story to exagerate the feelings of the moment.
Phildo and Lou, thanks for your input. I went to check out the List myself and saw what you meant about stand alone stories. BTW Lou I read yours when it first came out and voted, and while it was part of a chain, I found it was 'stand alone' enough to still get the feel of the story. Now that I'm writing one myself, I'll go back and read the series.
Phildo you make some excellent points. Thanks so much for bringing them up. I thought about what you said regarding writing the story as I want without the earth day 'contest' element, but the truth is that the story has as it's starting point the fact that these two people meet through diving. Without giving too much away, whether I write it for the contest or not, the diving and ocean is integral to the story. It's not a long drawn out diving story but they meet through it, and I thought that being an earth day story, readers might be more 'tolerant' of that, than if it was just an ordinary submission any other time.
Now here's the crazy thing. I could make this story swing the other way and then it would go into Erotic couplings, which is just so oversupplied and the last category that ever catches my eye when I read. After a lot of thought, I decided to take the story in the opposite direction because it will make the story more powerful and I've got a specific individual in mind who I'm modeling the male character on. He is just so much better in a rage/control role, plus its a great chance to give vent to my own 'rough' fantasies. So at least I've committed myself on that and know how I want it to play out.
Four Lit pages might be an exaggeration; I think 2-3 is probably more likely. I always get into character and some plot, it's the way I write so that's a given but I will keep it tidy. I just didn't know how much of both readers like in this category and I will definitely remember your warning against 'frills.' :) As for the readership, well that will be a whole new ball game for me. Looking at Lou's story at 4.76, it only has 28 votes, and that just reinforces what you guys say about limited appeal, so I may not qualify anyway, but I do want to write the story either way. A little challenge I set for myself is to write for as many different categories as possible and at least I will be achieving that. As always, I'll hope that my loyal readers will 'indulge' me.
Thanks again guys.
okay, I seldom read NC stories, but I do read contest stories ( and write them), and vote , sometimes just because everyone should have 25 votes.
there is a contest support page on the Author's Hangout you ought to visit.
IMHO, a 3 to 4 page story will not get a lot of votes even in a contest. Most readers will hit " back" long before the vote screen. Oh well, the ones who vote wil have liked it.
Why not add a snippett of sex on page one , say 3 or 4 paragraphs in, just to whet the reader's appetite. It need not be much- a paragraph of fantasy or recollection, as part of the stage setting perhaps?
