I eat too much bacon. I can sit down and eat a full pound at once, without even thinking about doing anything else. And this bothers me, because I've never really eaten that much bacon, in the past.
Mostly, I'd eat a few eggs, SSU or scrambled, and some toast. And if I decided to add some bacon on a whim, it would just be a few strips or so...nothing much. I just didn't have the desire for it.
Now ham, I love. It's another form of the pic, and I am a consesour of the stuff. Cure 81 is the best you can get. But, bacon? Never really cared for the stuff.
But, in the last few months, I could devour a whole package very quickly, and I don't know why. It's not good for your health to do that, either. And that's why the first sentence in this post is "I eat too much bacon".
To find a way to ween me away from bacon, I decided to temp my tastes with another, to see if I can calm this desire for a pound of bacon. More or less, this was just to exchange one food vice for another. Maybe find something a little less of a heart attack food, and still enjoyable for me.
I'm not that picky when it comes to foods, either. I can handle change. I don't NEED to have something, usually. This bacon thing has been just a little crazy...just a bad thing that festered.
So, because I can be satisfied in several different ways in the food department, I decided to try sweet rolls as an exchange for bacon. I'm also not that much into sweets, but it seems everybody enjoys a doughnut or sweet roll at breakfast, so why not join the club?
The sugar in it is far less of a health hazard for me than the fat and colestoral of the bacon. What's left in the skillet will tell you that bacon is an artery clogging food, and a sure path to a quick death, if I continued like I was. Pretty much anything else would be better for me.
I've often enjoyed mellons, too. Honeydew and cantelope...both wonderful choices. And healthy, too, considering the alternative. And that's probably what I'll end up eating, because like I said, sweets aren't that apealing to me. A little goes along way.
But preperation is also an issue with me. Speed is always necessary. Why? Hell of I know, but I just don't like cooking, and otherwise preparing food. I just want to eat it and move on with life. So, this is where the mellons are difficult. The seeds are messy, the fact that I have to cut it up in slices is an issue, and I also have to deal with the parts that I don't eat. Anybody wonder why I'm still single?
Sooooo, I'm back to sweet rolls, for the time being. LOL. And this is where I FINALLY get to the reason for this post. While in the store the other day, I was in a hurry, and just quickly picked up some Hostess cup cakes, which are always a satisfying taste for me. A little bit of chocolate, some creamy insides and the cake is a good balance for the other two.
After I got home and instead of sitting right down and trying a few, I just left them sit on the counter. Nothing big there...they're individually wrapped, so I knew they'd be fine.
And tonight, just a couple days later, I decided to try one or two. So, I opened the box and the wrapper of the first and took a bite. The first taste made me think it was stale, but that couldn't have been the case. Shelf life for these things is longer than that. There had to be another reason.
I was actually forcing myself to finish this cupcake, if you can believe that. It was dry, firm and almost too firm, and not that much cream on the inside, either. I was hoping the cream filling would counter the dry cupcake, but little bit of it there was, just didn't do it for me. I was confused.
Ah, but on a second look at the box, in my haste while in the store, I had picked up the wrong package. This was "light" Hostess cup cakes. Proudly displayed on the box right after the word "light" were the words "80% less fat than regular cream filled cup cakes." Ooooh, they were proud of that, for sure. Written in a prett font...right under the namebrand Hostess. But, I wasn't impressed.
As I type this, I'm trying to force myself to eat a second one, in hopes that I won't waste them. My first thought, after eating the first one, was to toss the rest into the trash. The word cardboard also came to mind. Dry cardboard, with a bit of cream filling inside to fool you.
I really can't taste much chocolate, either. Man, these things suck! I've just finished the second one, and I have to say...if all light food is this crappy, no wonder people can never stay on a diet. I truly feel sorry for those who are forced to live life eating this kind of...crap.
But, after forcing myself to eat two of these cardboard wonders of science, I don't feel much like eating anything else. Maybe there's a silver lining in this after all. That is, if I can stomach a couple of these when I'm thinking of bacon. And it would be even better, if one cup cake would do it.
I guess the saying "you can't have your cake and eat it too" is begining to make sense to me. And knowing there are 6 more cardboard cup cakes in this package is making me cringe.
