Noire characters have emotional IQs of rocks.

Readers demand histrionic and hysterical, and that aint how noire people are. About the most they do is scratch their itches and feed their appetites and solve real problems. They don't sing or dance or lose their hearts and minds.

That may be true of male noir characters. But female characters are as emotional as all fuck. Just look at the Mary Astor character in "The Maltese Falcon." Her emotional outbursts were legendary. Half of them were staged, of course, but the rest of them were real, especially when she got caught.

Except the ladies who need a good face-slap to settle their panties ;) !

Falcon came along about 1930, Hammett was done by 1940. Histrionic females were long gone by the 40s.

That comment would be seen as tongue in cheek-as I know you meant it-in most places, but on this site I'm sure it just gave a bunch of 'real men' here an erection.
