Marines investigated for Facebook gun photo taunting gays
CBS News - ‎20 hours ago‎

Last Updated Jun 16, 2016 10:27 PM EDT. SAN DIEGO -- The Marine Corps is investigating two active-duty Marines at Camp Pendleton for a social media post of a photo of a corporal in uniform holding an assault rifle and the message: "Coming to a gay bar ...

every organization has its share of dumbasses.

that's a medical fact .

When you hear a story like this one coming out of the Marines, you never need to look up the location.

It's almost always Camp Pendleton.

I'm letting you all know right now that I'm going to take exception if you lot start bad mouthing marines.

If I badmouth Marines like the ones this thread refers to, will you be alright?

Because I have no problem doing that. Nor should you.

You are right. The next question is should anything major or minor happen to him. I say minor based on all the stupid things all of us do online. Yes!! Way too soon.

Big of you to limit your criticism to "those people" at Camp Pendleton.

You know what else is true about Camp Pendleton? Nearly every time you hear about Marine heroism, more likely than not, at some point he was associated with Camp Pendleton. You got any problem with Marines that went through Paris Island?

Would you be saying that if he held a gun in a photo with the caption, "Sandy Hook was just the start; I'm coming to an elementary school near you"?

Would that qualify as a stupid thing all of us do online?

No. Obviously. Did that happen? Can you understand irony?

Assholes are assholes. Badmouth them all you want. Badmouthing them and tagging them as marines as though being a marine is less than, or that the corps condones that sort of bullshit, that I have a problem with.

And yes I know, no one has done that yet, but I have been around this place too long. I know how these things go around here.

No. Obviously.

And why is that so different from this scenario?

"Uh oh - some bad Marines did a bad thing. First and foremost, better defend the Marines as a whole."

"Uh oh - some radical Muslims did a bad thing. WHY AREN'T MORE MUSLIMS CONDEMNING THEM?"

Hi-larious.

Tough shit! Dishonourable jarhead grunts.

And will remain so until the corp apologizes.

I mean should we really be surprised?

Maj. Staci Reidinger said Thursday that fellow Marines alerted officials to the post, and authorities were able to track down the Marine in the photograph and another one who reposted it.

According to the Marine Corps Times, the post appeared on a private Facebook group for male Marines with the words "Too soon?" before the administrator deleted it and banned the person from the group

It seems to be going through channels.

Can you say what the specific punishment should be? I am sure you will not answer this. My money's on you will change the subject. I will double down. You will not address this question.

What should the punishment be?

I clearly dodged your question, above. And now I'm going to make a lame attempt at deflecting the heat onto you. What should the punishment be?

Whatever the punishment is for threatening to kill innocent civilians due to discrimination based on sexual orientation, per the codes of conduct unbecoming an officer, because that's what he did. I would expect that punishment to be rather severe.

The only thing that is hilarious is that you think your false equivalency is somehow logically consistent.

One offender is upholding the standards that he lives by and will be glorified and revered in his community. The other is completely violating the standards that he is supposed to live by and will be dealt with by his organization so other than the fact that those are completely opposite scenarios you might be able to draw a parallel.

Jar heads be jar heads... Not exactly known for critical thinking.

Stupid. But does anyone think he meant anything by it?

A morbid sense of humor is the only defense for the shit infantry has live with.

So you don't have a clue. Your answer is "I would expect". I will give you a second chance. Care to base anything you said on fact/law?

Yep, changed the subject

Stupid. But does anyone think he meant anything by it?

[sarcasm]Whenever someone takes a picture of themselves with a gun while threatening a specific group of people, and means for that picture to be consumed by the mass public, it's always a good idea to treat it as innocuous. That's what history has shown us. [/sarcasm]

One offender is upholding the standards that he lives by and will be glorified and revered in his community.

I love the fact that you charge me with false equivalency, and then use the broadest brush possible to paint "community" when it comes to Muslims. I see what you did there. Not clever enough.

So you don't have a clue. Your answer is "I would expect". I will give you a second chance. Care to base anything you said on fact/law?

*You strongly suggested the initial photo was no big deal.
*I challenged that by offering up another scenario as comparison.
*You ignored that scenario - because it killed your point - and challenged me to say what the punishment should be.
*I said it should be severe. I gave details as to what it should be based on.
*You're now, for no good reason, asking me to name specific laws which would enable the punishment. And you're double posting.

You're changing gears in desperation and grabbing at straws. Face it: debate isn't your thing.

Considering the scale and scope of the tragedy, dishonourable discharge.

Agreed. But not for all of the hyerbolic reason Rory states. Discharge for condcuct unbecoming given his actions brings disrepute. Also for as Rory points out, it is hostile to a protcted class, just like any other employer.

Not because he actually threatened anyone. Because no one sane thinks he was planning any such thing, or i tending that any person would see and be intimidated by it. Same locker-room crap that some posters here engage in.

As far as Marines Corps honor, you only know about this because a marine did the right thing and leaked it. Altetnatively, see Vat's commetary about Marines. Coulda been leaked by stupidity, in which case more Marines get discharged.

Would you be saying this if the man in the photograph had been a Muslim?

How about a twenty-year-old, threatening an elementary school?
