I'm guessing just a glitch as nothing seems to have changed. I was getting all exicted with the possibility that my story had been approved. Still I've just added the above mentioned thread to the Graduation Night story.

Communicate

Yeah, at least it would be nice if someone who knew what was going on would post something to tell us what the time line for updates and fixes is going to be.

You've got a point Jake. It would be a good if someone from the site could give use some comment on the progress of the new version of Chyoo.

Somethings never change.

Well,
the more and more I think about it. And the more and more I login to Chyoo I notice this. Somethings never change. The site moderators in their letter to Gystex... or Spary or whoever it was said the new site would allow them to UPDATE easier and more often. Right? Or did I just make that up? Well it's the end of May now and the site hasn't been updated since the 10th. Almost 3 weeks... time for the usual update. I find it's around every 3 weeks. Something I noticed though, the NEW stories were not approved when Chyoo switched to Chyoo 2.0. That means people have been waiting a month now to have them approved... that's not very fair.

I have a question... when are the members suppose to start recieving the "Chyoobunga" or whatever it is called. It's the Chyoo e-mail news letter. I thought it was coming with the changes...

I also agree that the site moderators need to create a forum for moderator's messages. Similar to the one on Lit. I'd like to know what is happening and all. I am sure you guys would too.

One more thing I wanted to add... nothing to do with my normal contributors for Chyoo stories, but lately I've noticed that new members are contributing. The problem is that these threads are garbage! 50 words, no periods, no capital letters, no sentence form what-so-ever! If you are going to take the time to actually submit a thread atleast send a decent one. I can correct spelling and grammar... but I can't do anything but reject terrible writing. Are we minors? or what!

Now I am done ranting. Do I complain too much? It seems like all I've done since the New Chyoo 2.0 came.

Sad but true...

Chyoo's lost it.

The original feel which we prized is long gone. Right now, I vote all the old regulars find another forum so we don't all disappear.

I don't know about you guys, but I'd love to write more, but the new interface is clunky, none of my stories are being approved, and I'm just not enjoying the new site.

What do we do?

Well guys/gals,
what are we going to do? Here's my goal... today I am going to write a thread. And since Stuart is feeling crappy about Chyoo too, I will try to write it for Quiet Streets. Wish me Luck!

Re: Sad but true...

Stuart, I can´t quite understand your position. We are complaining for months if not years that Chyoo needs reprogramming for enhancing its possibilities. Now, finally we see that this is happening, there is a beta version which clearly shows that our suggestions are taken into account and which already in some crucial parts offers a clear improvement.

It i s a beta, so some new things don´t work yet, some old things don´t work anymore, and the layout stylesheet is at minimum - well, maybe they should have honed it a bit longer before putting it online, but then again, it´s us who put up the pressure. To me it´s very obvious it will not remain like this - I guarantee the layout will change, if just to include sponsor links again - after all, this is the only source of income!

Now, the responsible persons obviously don´t have too much time to put into Chyoo (guess they have to earn their money with something else), so I fully understand that the priority is now to put that time into the reprogramming and debugging and not into reviewing new stories. One after the other! Just a little patience, don´t suggest that the present state will be permanent!

If the clunky interface causes a writing block, why not write in a word processor where you can choose your layout as you like, and then copy-paste.

And, regarding the stories which are not yet approved: no problem. You can add threads to them just as to approved stories, and if you post a link here to the story map, anyone can go there and read anything you have written and add threads, which you can approve and everything - I did this in a not-yet-approved german story , it works! Well, I don´t know what happens if the story is rejected, so better save your threads somewhere else, but knowing the quality of your writing, I am very confident that your stories will be accepted.

So, change is often difficult, but I think here it is worth while to wait a bit till things are working out as they are meant. A summons to leave Chyoo collectively would be exactly the wrong signal to the site owners.

Best regards, marmot

Just Talk to Us

I agree in spirt with what you are saying Marmot, I just don't get why the site owner does not post a thread to let us know what is going on. Overall I think the site will end up much better than before once they get everything linked up. I just wish they would say what the heck is going on.

I tried your suggested work around for adding to a story that is not approved and I can't seem to get it. When I go to the story there is a button that says approve/deny thread, but I do not see the add a thread button? I must be going into the wrong place. Try explaining is in more detail for the dim witted and let me see if I can get it.

Thanks.

:D

Wow...

First I want to say I wish I could be as optimistic as Marmot! You seem to be very happy with the new system. My problem with Chyoo is this: Before the system had problems, however it was a much simpler system. It was easier to get around the flaws. Now Chyoo is very complex, and the problems are more complex to get around.

It could be that I was so use to using the old style that I am not use to this one, and it will take some getting use to. Chyoo could be something amazing if it ever comes to fruition... knowing when would be great. I couldn't agree with Jaky Lyon anymore than I do now. The moderators have never been too verbal with us. I myself have never heard one word from the moderators in my one year here. There is the message on the Chyoo front page, but it was just recycled for every update Chyoo has done.

I think the one thing I miss the most, is the link between Chyoo and these disscusion boards. A lot of members have lost touch with these boards because I don't think they knew they could be reached through the literotica site.

The new Chyoo has scared a few people away. Most of the regulars are pretty quiet these days. I am here and Stuart and Jake, and sometimes Sparkyman and Kendalh is around. I think we have lost Dacia, Android, Christy and a few others. I have a feeling I know why. Real life is very time consuming and finding time for Chyoo is tough. And then the system changes to something so alien that is requires relearning the whole thing. Not too many people have time for that. I find that I spend less time with the new chyoo than I did with the old one.

Even though the system is different, I am not going to leave completely. I didn't get that message from Stuart either. The way I understood it was all the regulars/most active Chyoo'ers should create a forum for what's happening. Am I wrong?

Dacia isnt lost!!!

Dacia's just been out of town for two weeks and is going away for one more unfortunately. I've found the new system has actually kicked me out of a serious writters block. I just submitted my third new thread since the update. My problem is that my computer no longer has internet access so that when I want to pick somewhere to write I have to use my friend VERY crappy and slow computer, pick where i want to add onto, copy the previous threads onto a word document, save it to disk, go back to my computer and write my latest thread, save it back to disk and them load it onto Chyoo on my firends computer next time I am there. Thus you see my infequency of updating.

I'm here and your not getting rid of me so nurrrrrrrrrrrrr........

Although the new Chyoo is different from the old one, I don't think it is "more complicated" or whatnot. The only thing I truly miss is the "see previous thread" option, but I think it's a fair trade for the story map. Plus, with the story map, you can *always* find the exact url of a precise thread, whereas it was not possible with the old system. :p

When Chyoo will enter Beta 2.1 or whatever, I'll be very satisfied with it. The quotation screw-up (and not even talking about the totally messed up accentuated characters, which are very, very frequent in French... urg...) at least gave me the occasion to revisit lotsa old threads... I rewrote parts of almost every thread I corrected. :p

And well, can't say I was traumatized enough to stop writing... :) The reason why I've slowed down recently is that I've taken up drawing. Yikes, that can be tough, but it'll be rewarding in the end... I hope!

So... Guess I'm not as enthusiastic as marmot, nor as dispirited as stuart...

Hi Jakelyon, well I happened to try it this way and it worked:
For your own story:
- log in, go to "My stories" and look for the story for which approval is pending
- then simply click on the story title, and you come to the first thread, and at least here in my case it has the "Add new thread" button below as always when you are logged in with your username.
- alternatively, in the "my stories" list, also the "view story map" works.

For somebody else´s story, you have to know the story number from the author; then you go to any title page or story map, change the current story number to the one you want and go to the first thread or whichever thread you want. For me this worked, I don´t see any approve/deny thread buttons.
Hope this helps,
marmot

uhm, that reminds me I should put all the ä, ö, ü and ß in place.. well, maybe when I have more time for rewriting ;-)

I think abandoning Chyoo would be a little hasty as it hasn't been that long since the change and an update. Yes it is getting annoying that the creators have made no effort to tells us what is going in.

One exxxtra note...

Just wanted to say a quick hi to Dacia. It's good to see you back, even if you're not really gone. We miss you, where can we find you new threads. Well I don't know if other people miss you, I am speaking for myself. When you planning on getting hooked back up? Chyoo needs you!

You poor young lady! That seems like a lot of work for you to have to go through! I have a solution! I have a comfortable armchair at my computer desk. I think you could easily sit on my lap and work on your threads and such. It would certainly cut down quickly on approval time, as I could immediately take over and submit another thread, since I've been working on both your stories. Probably be even more inspiration that way, hehe.

(Reality check: Dac is on other side of globe- oh F reality! Besides where exactly where you headed to, DJ?)

My fellow "Chyoo'ers"

*LMAO* I just wanted to let you know that I love this forum. You guys are as funny as h*ll. It's a trip just to read what you all have posted.

As for the problems with chyoo, I've only found one or two things wrong with it. They're not really problems, per se. They're more like annoyances.

The first one is when it logs you out after about 20 minutes. I mean, what's the point? Does anyone out there know a good reason why they do this?

I mean, think about it. You're sitting there at the website and you're typing out a thread to some story that you enjoyed. Right? Then, when you go to post the thing, it doesn't take cause you've been logged out. Ugh! I feel like choking something when this happens.

The second thing is that when you go to the story list page, it reads "approval pending". But when you go to the thread for that story (which is the same thing in my opinion), it reads "approved". What's the deal with that?

Anyway I hope you all don't mind my ranting. I love the site and the forum. I look forward to more from all of you. Thank you.

Wyldnight

Maybe you should put your comments into the "feedback" forum, which is theoretically read by the site maintainers. Though we rarely hear back from them.

Most of us have been burned by the timeout. We feel your pain. The timeout means that most authors have the habit of writing in another editor (the spell checking is often helpful) and copy/pasting into the Chyoo editor window. Microsoft Word often used characters for quote and apostrophe that Chyoo couldn't understand, so the "copy it in" trick introduced its own problems.

-Z

I forgot about the timeout the other day. I spent about an half and half writing a thread and then submmited it prompting a log in and lost it all. Normally I write everything in word and then paste it across.

Using word to write the stories

I think that's a good idea. I sometimes type so fast that I make a lot of spelling errors. And I know how irritating it is to try to read a story when there are a lot of spelling mistakes. Not to mention a lot of grammatical errors. I will probably start using word whenever I decide to add threads or write my own stories. Thank you.
