From the LA Times:

“When Mayor Karen Bass unveiled her budget plan for 2024-25, she called for a 2.7% reduction in spending at the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Her proposal, unveiled in April, sought $23 million in cuts to the department, with much of it focused on reduced equipment purchases.

But while her citywide spending proposal was being reviewed, Bass was also in closed-door negotiations over a major boost in pay for the city’s 3,300 firefighters. Those pay hikes — four years of raises and an array of other financial incentives — were not finalized until several months after her budget went into effect.

The City Council approved the firefighter raises in November, adding more than $53 million in additional salary costs. By then, the council had also signed off on $58 million for new firetrucks and other department purchases.

Once those two line items were added, the fire department’s operating budget actually grew by more than 7% compared to the prior fiscal year, according to the city’s financial analysts.”

😳

😑

The right wing scumbags continue to LIE about the circumstances related to the tragic, destructive event.

Shame!!!

👎

🤬

The LAFD budget was ACTUALLY INCREASED BY 7 PERCENT.

Firefighters’ wages were ACTUALLY INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY, and an ADDITIONAL $58 MILLION for firefighting equipment was ACTUALLY BUDGETED.

Hope that ^ helps.

The previous year there was a special purchase of fire-fighter equipment.
Next year there was no need to purchase that equipment, obviously (no MAGA fraudsters around to steal the money).

If it had been a red state they would be lying about 'efficiencies'. But as it's a blue state they have to lie about something else. Lying is the MAGA policy.

Lying is what they do. Then, when called out on their lies, they whine about how "The fact checkers are biased."

We've seen this sad scene played out before and kudos to those who continue to lobby for and proclaim the truth.

👍

Then:

Yes, the LA times is a reputable source, especially regarding their DEI mayor.

🙄

Right on cue.

SAD!!!

🤣

That ^ is what decent, intelligent American (non-MAGAts) are up against every day.

Don't know if she was being facesious/sarcastic or not. Sadly with some of these people you sometimes can't tell. The new trend de jour seems to be "Hey look at us! Let's all be racists!! I can hate minorities more than you!" ("can not!") "Can TOO!"

We're just a couple days from this all being Orange Hitlers fault...LOL

Then the Mayor demanded the Fire Chief attend a meeting to be ceremonially fired. However, when she turned up it appears that she (the fire chief), told the mayor she would take the mayor down with her. Cue prompt re-consideration - no longer fired - and working harmoniously together! This isn't about Party politics but basic competence ( lack of it) At this point it appears that the mayor should be history, and the water chief and Newsome should also be accountable.

Less equipment. More pay. I'm glad they're making more. They absolutely deserve it.

That seems to be working out great.

Nice editorializing there chief…

😑

Here’s what really happened:

https://www.latimes.com/california/...ver-funding-saying-the-city-failed-her-agency

😳

😑

The budget for the LAFD ACTUALLY WAS INCREASED.

From the article:

“City Administrative Officer Matt Szabo, who helps prepare the city budget, said the department’s budget is expected to grow by more than 7% this year, once new firefighter pay raises and vehicle purchases are factored in. The department faced no financial constraints on the number of firefighters who responded to the blazes, or how long they worked, Szabo said.”

That ^ is from the guy who ACTUALLY helps prepare the city’s budget - not a fire chief with an agenda.

😳

😑

The fire chief is undoubtedly advocating / angling for a FUCKTON MOAR money for the LAFD:

From the article:

“In the Fox 11 interview, Crowley went further, saying the department has not received the funding necessary to serve the city’s population. The department, she said, should double the number of firefighters and add 62 fire stations.”

😳

😑

The fire chief probably SHOULD be fired for trying to leverage the situation DURING the crisis - although I get why she did it. She actually put the citizenry on notice more than the mayor: You want services? YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THEM. (What a novel concept.)

😑

Side note:

I’m sure a MAGAt republican mayor and the private sector citizens of LA would gladly pay the taxes required to meet the fire chief’s demands.

😑

Hope ALL that ^ helps.

👍

Also:

Don’t be a BB.

TIA

LOL. Make all the excuses you like. It's still thousands of buildings burnt to the ground, lives and jobs destroyed and $60 billion damage and counting. Going to be impossible to get property insurance in a years time as well.

Pure incompetence all round.

On the other hand, it's going to be fun to watch the drowning climbing onto each other's shoulders
