Willing to oppose Trump, some US Senate Republicans gain leverage

It is no surprise that Democrats in the U.S. Congress will oppose Donald Trump but the most important resistance to fulfilling the president-elect’s agenda is beginning to emerge from Republicans on Capitol Hill.

A small number of influential Republicans in the Senate are threatening to block appointments to Trump’s administration, derail his thaw with Russia and prevent the planned wall on the border with Mexico.

The party held onto control of the Senate at the Nov. 8 election but by only a thin margin, putting powerful swing votes in just a few hands.

That empowers Republican Senate mavericks such as Rand Paul of Kentucky and Ted Cruz of Texas. Both were bitter rivals to Trump in the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

Paul, a libertarian lone wolf, says he will block Senate confirmations if Trump nominates either former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani or former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton to be secretary of state.

South Carolina’s Lindsay Graham has started publicly outlining places he might be willing to oppose Trump. He is against the Mexican border wall and is delivering warnings against Trump’s intention to revoke legal status for undocumented immigrants brought here as children – although that would not require congressional approval.

What if the Repubs rebel and refuse any of his appointments? Can you be President without a cabinet?

‘He’s not going to drain the swamp – he is the swamp!’: CNN panelist unloads on Trump’s corruption

Donald Trump’s promises to “drain the swamp” of Washington corruption are becoming more of a punchline for his detractors as more information about his conflicts of interest piles up.

Appearing on CNN Tuesday, Democratic strategist and former Clinton White House aide Keith Boykin ripped Trump for his multiple shady dealings in the two weeks since he’s been elected president.

“How much longer do we need to wait?” Boykin asked incredulously when told by former RNC communications director Doug Heye to have patience and let Trump work out his business entanglements. “The guy was meeting with Indian business partners. He’s bringing his daughter, who will run his business, into a meeting with the Japanese prime minister. He’s bringing his daughter into phone call with the Argentine president. He is involving his family, who will run his business, in picking the people who will regulate his business!”

Boykin said Trump’s actions since becoming president-elect show he’s making a mockery of his pledge to clean up Washington, as it increasingly seems that he will use the office of the presidency to enrich both himself and his family.

“How much more corruption does it take before the American people wake up and realize he’s not going to drain the swamp?” Boykin asked. “He is the swamp!”

I heard Falwell was being considered to head the Dept of Education. Trump is a train wreck and nothing can save him, not even the CINO's.

The Republicans in Congress most certainly aren't going to roll over for being in bed with the Russians.

I had a chuckle:) at that one, Pilot.:)

The Red Menace, might save us, really?

What made me laugh is the spin you put on it.:)

Makes me wonder if the Russian tag is the Company's way of scaring the populaces and stressing the importance of "Black Funds":) While the Beltway rearranges the deck chairs on the Ship of State, who's minding the bilge pumps?

The only way I see out of this ethical mess is for Congress to buy Trump out of his business empire.

The only way I see out of this ethical mess is for Congress to buy Trump out of his business empire.

Hillary could have bought him off easy. He is leveraged to the hilt and owes a lot of money to the 'less savory' so if he stiffs them on the deal, he might be the one who is stiff.

For a paltry $50 Million, I'm sure Trump would have thrown the election. Oh Right! That didn't work because Hillary isn't that popular anymore. Never underestimate the stupidity of the masses of uninformed and uneducated people.

Jerry Falwell Jr. turned down Donald Trump’s invitation to be Secretary of Education

While many public educators and advocates for county school systems may not have found much to cheer about in the appointment of pro-charter school billionaire Betsy DeVos to be Secretary of Education, they may breathe a sigh of relief to know who didn’t get the job.

Jerry Falwell, Jr. — son of religious right icon Rev. Jerry Falwell and president of Liberty University Christian college — told the Associated Press on Saturday that President-elect Donald Trump made him an offer of the cabinet position last week at a meeting in New York City.

Falwell said that he has two more years left in his contract at Liberty and Trump wanted a four-to-six-year commitment for the post. Furthermore, he does not want to uproot his family, including his 16-year-old daughter.

The pastor said that be believes DeVos to be a “great choice” for the cabinet position.

I include this for the one who questioned my previous report. See there are too Swamp Monsters!

Donald Trump asked Fabio and everyone else at his Thanksgiving party who should be secretary of state: report

President-elect Donald Trump is apparently having a hard time choosing who should be the country’s next secretary of state, so he posed the question to all of the well-heeled guests who attended his Thanksgiving Day party at Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.

Mediaite.com reported that a source from the party told the New York Post that the former reality TV star spent the holiday reveling in the attention of party guests — who included romance novel cover star Fabio, boxing promoter and convicted murderer Don King, luxury interior designer William Eubanks and Newsmax.com chairman Christopher Ruddy — and asking them who they prefer for the job, Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) or Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R-NYC).

Fabio reportedly was seated at a table near Trump, and “was asked for pictures nearly as often as Trump himself.”

Trump’s team has said that Romney would need to make a formal public apology for negative things he said about Trump during the 2016 campaign before he would be offered any post in the Trump cabinet.

Romney and ‘Gravitas’

SO will 'Romoney' be Sec. State? Some people don't think that is a good idea, other than Rudy would be worse!

CNN, an entertainment venue masquerading as a news channel, reported on November 22 that President-elect Donald Trump (this writer still finds that, in itself, incredible), is giving serious consideration to naming former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney as Secretary of State. CNN states that “a Romney appointment would give Trump instant gravitas abroad.”

This writer has never felt that his memory is superior to that of an average person; he reads or hears things, and many of them stay, somewhere, in his mind, available for recall when necessary. Reading this statement by CNN, he was reminded of Mr. Romney’s trip abroad during his unsuccessful campaign for the presidency. At that time, CNN didn’t appear to believe that said trip brought much ‘gravitas’ to the campaign. A quick internet search confirmed that for him.

Romney may not be as crazy as a lot of Trumpanistas, but he's no Albert Einestine either.

California's 49th was just called for Darrell Issa, the Congressman who puts the "ass" in "morass."

Karl Rove: Kellyanne Conway's Public Attacks On Romney Make Trump Look Weak

Karl Rove, the former George Bush tactician, had harsh words for Kellyanne Conway, regarding her public outbursts against Mitt Romney as choice for Secretary of State.

Rove said her actions are "destructive" and "it makes him [Trump] look weak.”

Rove joined Fox News' Happening Now Monday morning when he was asked by host Melissa Francis to comment on the situation.

Francis said, "its impossible for me to believe she's gone rogue, hating on Mitt Romney," and she wondered if there was a "method to this madness."

Rove stated he didn't know but listed a couple of possibilities, one was it was coordinated by Trump and the other is that she did go rogue.
