lol.

So, I'm curious re: the vision regarding what a nation would look like where a large percentage of the population would regularly have a firearm on their person.

Have the gun nuts thought that far ahead?

(I expect mostly empty snark from the Right, and mostly genuinely funny snark from the Left.)

I just naturally expect people to be carrying.

Open carry starts next month. I'm...NOT sure I approve of that.

If it was open carry, In the beginning you would see many about town , novelty.

Soon enough the novelty wears off because you have to be dedicated to strap one on everyday like the police. Open or CC is not like putting on Sox.

If your imagining a wild west like scenario that would be a false perception. The idiots would soon be winnowed out.

Geez, the entire GB testosterone is going bezerk over the guns issue..

I've lived in several places where EVERYONE...I mean EVERYONE carried a gun.....little to no crime.

Metropolis megaplex city? Street corners like Iraq and shit on Saturday night.....gun free zones and shit.

Do guns and their availability play a role? Obviously...

Are there some other factors involved that can and do override that? All day every day....

Question is how do you craft an effective policy to deal with the issue on multiple levels.

I'm just going to carry water guns that look like real guns. That way I can fit in without really having to own a gun. I mean if all the cool kids are doing it....

I would assume that's because everyone knew others were also carrying. When some of these penis extenders get into the hands of Drunk Dirty Harry because someone took their parking spot, poor old Edna takes one right in her plastic hip.

She'll be grateful she has a plastic hip then.

Meh. Little crime doesn't mean enlightenment of minds, good neighbors, the proper carriage of justice and American ideals, etc. Bigger picture, please.

Many of the idiots will be the ones carrying first. I think we've firmly established that.

I read an editorial wherein the author remembered his father carrying a pistol back in 50s wherever he went (rural state). Was pretty much the norm there. Also the norm: if someone cut him off while driving, he'd walk up to the car while stopped at an intersection, tap the gun on the driver's window, and tell the driver to quit the shit. Bet you $$ a dozen people reading this right now see no issue with that; they think that's what constitutes "civility". It's called living in fear.

If American's reaction to fear, uncertainty, and doubt within the last 2 years have taught us anything, it's that this dumbass scenario would play out daily if open carry became the norm.

I said this in another thread and because it is fucking brilliant, I shall repeat it here;

It's a shame idiots with guns commit more homicides than suicides.

Sadly, now they just point the gun at the other person and then it becomes about who has the bigger dick, er, gun.

I wanted to find a .gif of someone clapping but that was going to take effort and time on my part so you get drift *clap, clap*.

I can't speak for other people or places but in Florida his ass would get 5 or 10 years without parole for brandishing a firearm. That's assuming he wasn't shot before walking up to said car by a cop or driver. Cops down here don't play. neither do armed drivers.#hotheads

Brilliant? You couldn't light a birthday candle with that *snicker

It's sad to see that the US has gone from being one of the most admired and sought after countries, to one where some people overseas no longer wish to settle in.

That's a good thing, there are too many home grown idiot's and illiterates. No need to import more. :D

Just keep the .gif addy on an accessible list. Evernote works wonders, I tells ya. ;)

And you are the .gif king. I'm just going to start PM'ing you saying, "Hey, I need a .gif for this occasion." :D

I don't see it as being much different than it is now, just with a little bit less crime, and where people are a little bit nicer to each other.

That and these places were almost entirely Caucasian/Asian, little to no poverty and I still don't think any of them have more than 10,000 people.

Point being there is more to it than availability of guns. Cram 11 million people into a 50x50 mile concrete slab with every imaginable ethnic/national/religious etc. background imaginable and HUGE income disparity/lack of financial opportunity issue that is growing under a do nothing except make a huge list of shit you can't do to better your life bigger government?

Changes everything........

Don't like the sound of reality hua? Shocking.

And therrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre it is.

It's not being "nicer" if it's due to a potential threat; it's being threatened into being civil. "Nice" comes with emotional vulnerability and a level of compassion. Not being a dick due to the other person having a weapon is just an asshole's accord. BIG difference.

The fact that anyone has to point this out makes the case to not give these fools easier access.

Now your just complaining . Who cares why people would be more civil as long as they self regulate their behavior? It's a valuable life lesson, consequences of having a big mouth. yuk yuk yuk

No, please don't put words into my mouth, because that's not at all what I said.

I've lived in places where guns are way more prevalent and legal, and people are nicer. Not because they are "afraid", but quite the opposite. People in places like NYC, Chicago and LA are much more willing to start fights with people for little to no reason. People in places where the guy you're randomly calling a "faggot" might be carrying a pistol are more apt to think before they act. It's not a matter of being forced into anything.

The south, for all of it's issues, is a much friendly place than the north, or either coast... There are also a lot more guns. Now, that's anecdotal evidence, but in the south, I've never had someone randomly try to start a fight with me. I have had many people try to start fights with me in the north and on the coasts.
