I was going through the forums and this RP caught my eye. Thought I might throw my hat in the proverbial ring and see what I might. I don't have a ton of time of commit so I'd only play 1, maybe 2, characters to keep thing simple (and also cut down on the number of male characters running around.)

The main idea I had for a character, but one that might not fit with plans for the story, is the son of the previous CEO of TTC. His father had realized what was happening to his company and had tried to convince people to keep their stocks or if they had to sell, to sell to him instead. When he suddenly died from a heart attack, his shares were inherited by his son, my character. Being a young, grieving, overwhelmed college student he jumped at Richardson's offer, if only to get the headache of the company off his hands. Over the next two decades he'd had several successful investments that had made his fortune considerably larger and one nasty divorce that had made it less, much less. Now in his early forties and still reeling from his divorce, he sets off to move into the one property kept in the divorce; his old family estate.
I don't know if that character fits into the setting you want to build or if it conflicts with your plans. I don't know if he would be related to one of the town's found families (maybe another Toland?) or maybe his father or grandfather was a relative newcomer.

My other character ideas are:

An older outdoors man who, when he was a younger man and a recent graduate of business college, had moved to the town to help run the Lumber side of TTC. He was working there when the company was butchered and had eagerly participated in its demise; making a pretty penny in the process. He'd planned to leave town after the deed was done but he found that he'd fallen in love with the town (including one of the local girls.) He'd stayed, making ends meet through a combination of his investments, doing freelance work (both online and for local businesses) and living off the land. He is in his mid-to late forties and a (relatively) recent widower that deeply regrets his role in what happened to his town, (though he knows it would have happened with or without him).

A 24 year old young man that lives with his mother. When he was younger he was a bit of a hoodlum that caused mischief around town. A few years back he had a run in with the local deputy that helped him realize that the path he was on could only lead him to trouble. He knew there wasn't much he could do in the town to meet the needs of himself and his increasingly sick mother. He eventually turned to the internet and tried his shot at streaming and making videos. He turned his whole attention to making content and found enough success to make enough money to meet his and his mothers needs, but not internet stardom. He's only recently realized that his focus on the internet has left him isolated and lonely in real life. He's only recently started to look around the town for someone, anyone that he can connect with.

I don't know if any of those ideas fit or if I'd be a good fit but I'd certainly to try.

I can see all 3 of these characters joining, but you have to decide how much time you want to dedicate to the story. Me, I have all the time in the world, so I can post for a dozen characters every day if I want

But my advice to all new writers is this: start out with one character, get a feel for what you can do, then – if it feels good – introduce another character.

Now, about the characters of whom you spoke:

…the son of the previous CEO of TTC. His father had realized what was happening to his company and had tried to convince people to keep their stocks or if they had to sell, to sell to him instead. When he suddenly died from a heart attack, his shares were inherited by his son, my character. I could see this working with this in mind:
  • Initially, maybe he is a bit reluctant for people to know who he is. (What if his mother was a Toland or Rollins, therefore his surname is whatever.)
  • For all he knows, residents might think he was partly responsible.
  • But Viola (and then others) learn who he is, and Viola in particular believes he could become an inspiration for others.
  • We can discuss details later.
An older outdoors man who, when he was a younger man and a recent graduate of business college, had moved to the town to help run the Lumber side of TTC. Oh, what would you think about this:
  • He had been (and maybe still is) a bit of a recluse.
  • But Viola learns of him and thinks that his experience could get just 1 small division of the mill up and running again.
  • Just 6 guys cutting specialty lumber for construction in Toland.
  • But it will expand, and his leadership will be applauded.
  • And along the way, he finds love?

A 24 year old young man that lives with his mother. When he was younger he was a bit of a hoodlum that caused mischief around town. A few years back he had a run in with the local deputy that helped him realize that the path he was on could only lead him to trouble. So, my thoughts:
  • We need to promote Toland, online.
  • Viola hires him to make online videos to promote the revival.
  • He will need assistance. What about a pretty, young intern? I'm sure that one of us has a girl who could help.

Also, if anyone else has comments, share them.

Mebbe should have expressed my interest here. "Always open for new writers..." Are you seeking someone not-new to RP, and not new to collaborative fiction, and also not exactly new to Lit (been lurking for years, only really active in the past few months...) This looks interesting. Lots of good worldbuilding happening here.

I'm always open to any writers. Just a note about the difference between the OOC thread and the Seeking thread. The former is for information directly related to the story: profiles, maps, descriptions, etc. The Seeking is for interest checks, character introductions, collaboration ideas, etc.

If you have something to say that you think all the writers should see, put it here, definitely. If it's something just for 1 or 2 characters, feel free to PM it.

ON ANOTHER NOTE ... I am out and about for a while, but when I get back, I will post the new Map and Town of Toland description that DOME presented. I love it, but it needs some revisions and explanations. Not much at all, but just a couple.

In the meantime, writers can continue to post to the IC or put up profiles in the OOC.

Hi, all. Danny here, writing this as I drive via talk to text, so please forgive me if there are any horrible grammatical inconsistencies. But, my iPhone and I are fairly simpatico. And I speak fluent punctuation, so I shouldn’t need to do too much editing on the backend.

First things first, after reading through much of this thread, and some of the OOC, I recognized DOME. We had an RP going for a while, which seems to have petered out. Not just that, but at some point DOME simply stopped responding to me. I don’t know if there are bad feelings there from him, but there are not for my part. Not sure if DOME is uncomfortable about having me here, but if so, then I will simply bow out now.

If that is not the case, then the character I was considering is a local. Grew up here. Still lives in the family house, though both of his parents have passed on. After looking quickly at the map, I would say that the house that he lives in, is in the area of town where the county has deemed the roads not worth repairing. The worst of the worst area. In his early 30s, he is currently, and has always been, a little lost. Some would say lazy. Others would say his fate stems from a lack of opportunity. I’m picturing an Appalachian state of disrepair, and a man who, given other circumstances, would succeed.

I see him as kind of a byproduct of the desertion of the town. Looking for a way out, or looking for a way up, or just looking for a reason to live.

Also happy to write a female character. I’m thinking likewise, someone struggling with the complete lack of infrastructure. Someone who would typically rely on population, in order for their livelihood to exist. Like a librarian. Or a store owner, something with typically marginal income like a bookstore. Barely keeping it together.

Trying to be realistic about my time, I really only have the resources at my disposal to write one character, not both. Maybe in the future, but right now I could only commit to one.

Tell me what you think folks.

Wasn’t sure if we were good. Wasn’t sure what happened, or if I did something you didn’t like.

First things first ... DOME.
Looks that's settled. Moving on... :)

I like your character. We'll find a storyline and character interaction, I'm sure.

I should have said this, but any writer can write any character of any gender. I write males sometimes, myself.

I always advise writers to begin with just one, get settled in, then move on. I only started with the number I did because I'm the hostess. Honestly, right now, CutiePie is writing as many as I am and TiredFingers even more, so I feel like I'm a slug right now.

Hello, my name is Ish. I really love the idea you have sprinkled in about money laundering. I'd figured I'd throw my hat in the ring for this idea. If it's still open of course. I have a character with a double identity. He's a businessman by day but an outlaw biker at night.

If not interested in that, then that is fine. I will be more than happy to ride off from here. Let me know either way. :)

Actually, we closed it to the 4 writers we currently have. It was turning out to be too much for two of the writers -- reading wise -- and rather than lose them by overwhelming them, we closed it. (I actually thought I took the "seeking" post down, sorry.)

I've always wanted to write something involving bikers, but I have some elements of it that most guys have not liked, mainly:
  • My main character is a dominant, confidence woman. That doesn't mean that the male character can have his own dominant, strong personality. It just means that I'm not in to writing some Ol' Lady or Property.
  • I like there to be some element of the "gang" -- MC -- being in control of an area but also being benevolent. Did you ever watch "Sons of Anarchy"? They were an outlaw MC, but they also used their power to keep drugs out of Charming and to punish people like rapists, etc. Something like that.
  • And I always wanted to do something that was fantastical, like Vampire bikers, not that this is mandatory. Just an idea.
Thoughts?

This would be a 1x1 with just you and me writing multiple characters, maybe 2-5 each, some primary, some secondary.

Awwwww.... I completely understand, then guess I can bow out if I ne- *sees other lengthy messages*

Hold on, you do? Alright, I'm game to listen to those said elements.

This is not a deal breaker for me honestly, I'm actually starting to learn most don't want to be an Ol Lady, Sweet Butt, the usual stuff.

I have watched it, hell, in my neck of the woods, there's a "gang" MC that's nothing more than blue collared folks who enjoy the finer things of life, etc. stuff like it. Something that's actually relatable we can put pen to paper.

I don't mind that, really. I just prefer to be a human, perhaps the male character can be a Dhampir if we are going Vamp biker route? I'm open either way.

Honestly, I'm okay with the afformentioned ideas. And just the two of us, but with us writing multiple characters (2-5 max each)? Can't complain there, I haven't done anything like that before and two writing multiple characters sound twice as fun tbh.
