NM teens deny hazing charges

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – Six former high school athletes have denied charges they sexually assaulted younger teammates during a hazing incident at a preseason football camp.

State District Judge Eugenio Mathis on Monday placed the boys on house arrest, allowing them to leave under supervision only for school, work or to go to a community recreation center for two hours a day.

The former Robertson High School football team members, all 16 or 17, appeared in court Monday and denied the Children's Court charges of criminal sexual penetration, kidnapping, conspiracy and other crimes.

A state police report included allegations of sodomy with a broomstick.

District Attorney Henry Valdez has filed a notice that he would seek adult punishment against the teens if they are convicted.

Juvenile sentencing could keep them in state custody until they were 21. Adult penalties could subject them to dozens of years in prison.

Head football coach Ray Woods and six assistants resigned in September amid allegations that coaches failed to adequately supervise the players or follow up on initial hazing allegations.

*** The last paragraph made me feel sick. What if it had been one of my sons they hazed? More mob mentality with bullies allowed to take the reins. Coach Woods should get more than just a resignation. Maybe he would like a broomstick up his ass?

Sports build character, I guess.

What about "Innocent until proven guilty?"

I'm not saying they are innocent. I'm saying that I don't know if they are guilty. :(

If the head coach and six assistants have already resigned perhaps there is a great deal of proof to the allegations.

Hazing, with a broomstick, sounds more like splintering. I've got my needle handy in case anyone is tempted to try this at home.

In another thread I posted about bullies, I mentioned an artist named Hogarth who did a series of etchings called The Four Stages Of Cruelty. In the first etching, little boys are jabbing a stick down a dog's butthole. It made me sick at first viewing. That was 1750 and here is a current day reminder of the cruelty of boys, in this case, against weaker boys.
